To any British Queen fans

Post by JudgeDredd »

Queen the group, that is.

I went to a concert last night. It was a guy called Gary Mullens and his band. He won Stars In Their Eyes as Freddie Mercury.

I think his show is called A Night With Queen...what an awesome show.

Just wanted to let you know...if it's in your town, go and see him...he does Freddie Mercury very, very well.

He just said they had come back from the states, so I think he had played over the pond.

Well worth the money. Two hours of Queen classics. [&o]

Hi JD,

Queen is mine and my wifes favourite group.

I don't go out in public anymore so I could never see this guy.

Regards,

Greg

That is one of the only three acts that I have never seen nor will ever because of death. So that is very refreshing news to me. Ot's a shame because They were just here and I missed them because it's not Freddie Mercury. Thank you for the info judge. I will not miss them next time around

Oh... so this is only for BRITISH Queen fans... I guess, being a colonial, I can't comment then. [8D]

I love Queen. Don't Stop Me Now, is an excellent song, and I loved the scene in Shawn of the Dead that used it (the use of The Kink's Village Green Preservation Society in Hot Fuzz was nearly as good but not quite classic).

And looking at Freddie Mercury's outfit in the above picture makes me wonder how anyone had any doubts about his sexual preference. [:'(]

Check this out, as well, a statue of Freddie Mercury in Switzerland!

I also found out that Freddie was of Parsi Indian descent (he was born in Zanzibar). He did not advertise this, but it is pretty well known now. His death was rather sad, funny I don't remember it, although I was only in sixth or seventh grade at the time. I really got into their music in high school, about 3 years after he died. Great music, very instrumental in modern British rock. I don't think there will ever be a group so unique and daring. Bohemian Rhapsody is all kinds of awesome, yet contains two very different styles of music and a sharp break between the two, pure genius. Other than Don't Stop Me Know, I would say that my favorite song is Princes of the Universre (of course, I am a big Highlander fan too).

Though it's not my favorite song, I would agree with you that Bohemian Rhapsody is probobly one of the top 3 most brilliant rock and roll songs of all time.
It absolutely has to be in the same conversation with Led Zeppelins's Stairway To Heaven or Pink Floyd's work on their "The Wall" album.
Just my opinion.
As far as Freddie Mercury goes. I, unfortunately, closely followed the events once I found out he had aids. I was devastated. I realized that I would never get the opportunity again to ever have had the pleasure to see him in concert. I had heard so many great things about their concerts throughout the world and really wanted to see them perform. I just waited for the inevitable and when it happened, it was a very sad day for Rock and Roll.
But, thanks to Judge Dredd, I am going to see them when they come back around. Just like Brad Delp of Boston, you just cannot possibly believe that that voice could even remotely be made to where it could at all sound at least somewhat like his, so I'll just wait and see when they come back around.
Oh, and one more thing: If you like Styx, forget it. Their lead singer doesn't even come close to Dennis De Young. Just hope he and Tommy Shaw can put aside their differences and be the band they were intended to be.

Gary Mullens and The Works is a tribute band.

It's too bad Queen didn't look for someone like Mullens to tour with.  Of course, he would have had to NOT act like Freddie like he does with The Works, but his voice is spot-on most of the time.

I actually sing many Queen songs at karaoke.  I am lucky that I have a voice for it, as it isn't easy.  Most singers can't even come close.

Is there a cover? I mean, good comedy is hard to come by these days.

Actually, I sing quite well, thank you (I can do comedy too, but this isn't the George Carlin thread).

It is a great way to get women when the bar is right next to the dorms and apartments at an all-women's college.

Too bad I'm married.

Aw, shoot, man, go ahead and live dangerously ... pick one up ... why not even pick up an instrument ... I highly recommend it as preferable to warbling away a capellaat a microphone.
