Is condition B7 different between EIA & EIANW?

Post by gwheelock »

Is there an intentional change in the conditional Victory condition B7 (Conditional surrender; cede 1 Provence) between EIA & EIANW?

In EIA; the condition chart for B7 says "Loser must cede one provence of HIS choice AND one minor country (if available) of the victor's choice. ..."

I had Prussia surrender conditionally to France with the "Cede 1 PROVENCE" selected
and Saxony as FRANCE's selected minor. The program did not offer any method for
Prussia to select the PROVENCE (HIS choce - not France's; tho only Magdeberg was
elegible & was selected as France's 2nd choice)

Is this an intentional change or a bug?

This was intentional due to exchanges that would need to happen to get a victor's AND a loser's choice at the same time.

I might be wrong but presetting the order you want to cede provinces shouldnt be harder than the preselection of provinces you want ceded to you - in itself this should be rather easy to solve just a question of priority.

Cant say I particularly like the presetting of victory conditions though and negotiating peace conditions was often a interesting thing in our games and I think the ability of negotiating conditional victories by diplomatic means (i know it still can be done out of game and in that sense isnt much different from the boardgame) in our games often made wars shorter. I however know and accept why this solution was put in place.

The presetting of the vicotry conditions was a must since the old way created WAY TOO MANY file exchanges in PBEM. It is different than the original board game but was deemed necessary to keep a PBEM going at a decent pace.

I understand that as I said in my post, i still dont like it but I accept the choice to prioritise a faster game flow, however my point was: it shouldnt be harder to preset loss conditions than victory conditions, you still partially set these when you choose what condition is not valid to pick against you in an conditional, it would be possible also to preselect what province to cede if B7 is imposed on you. The question is if its a priority.

Gotchya! I think?
You can set the priority of the surrender terms and the priority of the provinces/units/fleets to choose from as well. Was that a question OR were you saying that you did not like this???
Help my simple-mind a bit here :-)

Sorry if ive been unclear

in the board game the loser get to choose what province to cede under b7, this was taken out in EiANW to minimize the number of needed mail exchanges - I say that it should be as easy to implement presetting of loss condition (like b7) as it is to preset victory conditons without any need for further mail exchanges.

edited some blatant grammatic and spelling errors for clarity and ease of understanding

OK, I see what you're saying!
As a developer, I hate the word "easy" and get scared when I see it. LOL!

Actually, the change might be the easy part BUT the difficulties would be the following:

1. DB structural change that would obsolete current save games.
2. Real estate on the reactions screen could be a problem as well.

Not impossible, just time consuming.

I never suggested it was a priority, just argued against the reason you gave for the current implementation.
