PP's

Post by commissarhanish_MatrixForum »

Hi all,

Ive been playing the game for over a year and love it. One questions however keep bugging me so I thought Id ask. Im currently playing as allies in a pbem campaign. Ive been using my political points to move units from the states to the battle theater etc...Ive now been asked to withdraw a british CV and destroyers. I only have about 400 pps in the bank and it will cost me over 2000pps to keep the carrier. In my previous post some recommended keeping the CV and paying the points. Will I go into negative points if I keep the carrier, and would that be a bad strategy? Also, my pp's seem really slow to build up. Can anyone clue me in on how those are calculated by the game..

Thanks

Yes, your political points will go into negative territory. It's a bit like an overdrawn bank account. You can do it, but it's not a good idea, and it limits your freedom of action. If it were me, I'd send the carrier home, but keep the escorting destroyers; the RN doesn't have enough of them.

And PP's aren't calculated. You get a fixed amount per turn.

Terminus is right. It does limit your freedom of action. In my game with him, I have only returned 3 ships to date. I am currently negative in points and it has impacted my ability to do some things. Still, I am happy with my choice to keep the ships. I have plans for them. In this this instance, I agree with Terminus. Send the carrier home. Keep the destroyers. British destroyers are very useful ships and you don't get enough of them.
For what we are about to receive, may we be truly thankful.

Is it possible to send the capital ships home without escorts? I tried this recently, had a mint CL in Aden (CHS) but no destroyers at the beginning of the month I got the PP penalty and the CL was still in harbour...

Or maybe do I need to disband them somewhere else? Damn, have to look this up... [X(]
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

You can always choose how many ships you want to send home. It's based on your action in pressing the "withdraw ship" button; they don't go home automatically.

In stock you accumulate 50 political points per turn.  I think that is hard coded so would be the same for the mods, but I'm not positive.

To put 50 political points in perspective.  It typically takes:

6-10 points to change a leader
48 points to switch command of a squadron (4 points per plane)
288 points to switch command of a full bomber or fighter group
over 2,000 points to change command of a division
about 48 points to change the command of a dutch base force

You have to move the ships to Karachi and then hit "withdraw ship" on the ship information screen.

In CHS - Karachi or Aden will do, and maybe San Francisco (unclear on this)... Bombay is allowed in Vanilla WITP (and Aden isn't there, so you can't do it).

Be sure to DISBAND the TF with the ship, then hit the withdrawal button on the ship screen of the ship you want to withdraw.

If you don't see the withdrawal button, then you've done something wrong. A regular mistake is to try withdrawing ships of the wrong nationality, esp. withdrawing Aussie or Dutch ships instead of British ones. Another mistake is trying to withdraw a wrong ship type - i.e. CL instead of CA, or CVL instead of CV.

Other restrictions - 50% or less damage, and i don't think it can have floatation or fire damage.

EDIT - if you have successfully withdrawn a ship - it should show up on your Intel screen.

Also, believe what your intel screen says, not your OPS reports. OPS reports will often issue misleading info at the beginning of the month, apparently to mislead the IJ player. If it says to withdraw something during a turn (and on OPS reprrt), and nothing is listed on the Intel screen, then this is what has happened.

No, you should keep CV, and try to perserve RN destroyers too, others you could give back to churchill.

The strategical gain from keeping RN CVs overweight the lost PP.

In Stock game you can go to Bombay and withdraw. Save a couple days sailing if your running behind.

So -it's Bombay, not Karachi?[&:] i thought it was the other way...

not that it matters a lot in my case- i avoid sending things back unless they are really badly banged up.

In chs they use aden in karachi's slot, and set karachi in other slot originally used by other port.  So karachi lost its "withdraw point" status.
