Shep's Flag Mod v4.0

Post by RyanCrierie »

Yet another Major Update:

Download Here (7.7MB)

It also adds a new scenario to the game: "NoBull Run(July_1861)", which moves the Union Army out of Virginia, allowing the Union Player more leeway in doing things on the first turn.

Most Brigade's now have flags assigned according to the following rules:

1.) Famous Brigade? Y/N? Flag for it? Use it, or that brigade's State Flag.
2.) Majority State. If there are 4 Regiments, and 2 of them are Virginia, then the brigade gets the VA flag.

Flags now in Game:

Has anyone installed this mod yet? I haven't got around to it and I am wondering how it looks so far.

Ryan, do you still want the nato symbol mod? Cheers.

The flags look great.  Do you use Photoshop or Illustrator?

They do look very impressive. I am trying them out in a current game. Any chance of adopting them for the normal version of FOF?

I can give pixelpusher the raw flag images I've put together, and he can do his magic on them if he wants...

Hey Shep, those are looking very nice. I see you've figured out how to use the Distort>Displace... filter in Pshop. Here's the offset map I used to get w/ the original flags. It waves more at the right side of the flag, and less at the pole-side on the left. When you use the Displace filter, one of the options is 'use tile'. Do that and just point it to this file. (You'll need to convert it to a .PSD)

What settings do you use to generate the displacement map Pixel pusher?

I've got Paint Shop Pro 9, which is a poor man's photoshop with 95% of the features; how much intensity and blur do you use for the displacement map?

BTW guys, this is going to be 3.0; I've managed to find Civil War Flags for every state except New Hampshire (I cheated by using the modern day seal), and they'll be in alphabetical order.

However,

Illinois
Indiana
Iowa
Kansas

Did not have any specific flag. Their regiments all used US issue regimental standards.

Looks great!  Do you just unzip it into the folder?

I suppose you can, my preference is to unzip elsewhere and copy it in (whilst also retaining a copy of the originals).

Wanted to say great mod & excellent work---adds a lot more flavor to the game.

Hope I'm not overstepping---but are there any plans for future versions that may have more "legendary Bde" flags along the lines of the ones you have for the NY legendary units? same for new general flags? (new to the civil war period so I'm unsure if there were any others from what you have included)

Oh yeah, future versions - there's always plenty of room for more "legendary" flags. It all depends on how much information I'm able to find on flags -- many units simply for a regimental flag (especially in the CSA); took the "standard" army battle flag, Polk or ANV pattern, and then stitched "2nd ALABAMA" on it...

Is there a chance you make a mod where army, corps and divisional flags would be changed right away? That would be more then sweet.

Hope I am not pushing too far [:(].

Godspeed
