Canary's Cage
By Miguel Molina

October 2005. Islamic extremist parties have come to power in several Arab countries. Algeria was the first, despite of the efforts of Western Allies on both sides of Atlantic to stop these regimes. Soon, all North African countries fell under the rule of N.A.I.L., Northern Africa Islamic League, including Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia and the surprisingly the pro-western Kingdom of Morocco.

Morocco, with the help from other NAIL countries, pressed her ancient claim of the African Spanish cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The relationship between Spain and Morocco had deteriorated sharply after Perejil Islot affair and the Western Sahara referendum. Spain answered by reinforcing her military at those two cities. But as the situation started to cool down, a secretly assembled NAIL amphibious force landed on the Canary Islands and captured the islands in spite of stiff resistance by local forces.

While politicians are discussing the invasion in the U.N. and NATO, Spain mobilizes her military forces to retake the islands.

Bloody Iceland
By Mike Mykytyn

The War in the North Atlantic is about over. As we speak Nato carriers and airpower are pummeling Northern Fleet Bases on the Kola Penninsula. In Germany, the Soviet juggernaught has been stopped and are fleeing to prewar boundaries and in Norway Soviet Airborne troops are surrendering by the thousands. In Iceland Soviet airpower has been destroyed by Tomahawk and Carrier attacks but one task remains..the liberation of Iceland.

This scenario is study of forced entry techniques in a Cold War environment. Where other scenarios focus on the Air-Sea war surrounding Iceland this one eyes the amphibious landings directly. Nato is the only side of play because of the complexities of carrying out all Nato missions.

Hints and Notes:

I didn't join groups for a reason- gives you more flexibility and you may need different mixes of escorts and amphibs to carry out certain missions.

Beware of false contacts

All ideas from this scenario are a mix from Red Storm Rising (Tom Clancy) and the Third World War (Sir John Hackett).

Diamonds in the Sea
By Quinton Van Zyl

DATE: 5 April 1992
TIME: Early Morning 00:00 Zulu
LOCATION: Peru/Chile Border

The world economy is in the grips of a recession, countries are desperate for a source of wealth that could reignite their economic flames.

Beneath the waves on the floor of the Pacific ocean just off the South American continent lie some extinct volcanoes that could solve the economic problems of a country for decades. The kimberlite rock found within the volcanoes has been found to contain diamonds. Just off the coast, this resource is harvestable - it just needs to be accurately located.

The Chilean government has announced its desire to investigate this find so it can begin the process of extraction for the "benefit of the South American people". Peru has scoffed at this as an insult to its country and labels the announcement at an attempt to hide the Chilean governments greed at exploiting a Peruvian resource. This brings us to our problem. The diamonds appear to lie in a patch of water straddling the maritime border of Peru and Chile. Peru claims the waters as her own territorial waters. Chile argues that they lie outside the 12nm limit and are international waters.

Yesterday afternoon on the 4th April, a small Chilean task force set sail for the area to begin a preliminary survey of the region with their oceanographic survey ship the Vidal Gormaz. At the same time the Peruvian government announced a ban on all Chilean vessels entering Peruvian waters.

Think I have played all of them in ANW and not encountered any major difficulties.
Have written a number of AAR's posted to the AAR section for them if that helps.

Conflict in the Comoros
By Quinton Van Zyl

DATE: May 1998
TIME: 03:00 Zulu (Before dawn local time)
LOCATION: Western Indian Ocean

Since 1974 the Comoros islands have endured 19 coups or attempted coups. In 1974 The three northern islands of Grande Comore, Anjouan and Moheli became the Comoros and the fourth southernmost island Mayotte elected to remain under French rule.

A set of suspicious circumstances has surrounded the most recent coup in that it was intensely monitored by the Indian government. India has never shown an interest in the Comoros until about two weeks before the actual coup, the attention has continued until now. When the Comoran president was gunned down at his residence the Indian Prime Minister declared that the unstable situation in the Comoros was bad for the Indian Ocean community and declared that Indian "peacekeepers" would supervise the setting up of a stable force of leadership. This statement caused the French president to injure himself while falling out of his chair and prompted a declaration of condemnation on the Indian governments intention to meddle in affairs that do not concern them. France went on to say that if any civilized nation was to intervene in the interests of the Comoros it should be France and not India. The situation deteriorated further in that the Indian government has announced that it is growing tiresome of the misplaced French naval presence in an ocean that is India’s.

That was three weeks ago. Following this heated exchange France dispatched a large task force that rendezvoused with a support ship and frigate of its Indian Ocean squadron based at Reunion yesterday. India has sent a small supervisory flotilla to the islands to ensure a peaceful continuation of the new regime.

When pressed for details in a press conference in Paris last night the French spokesman said that very reliable intelligence has suggested that India’s interests in the Comoros are purely military. He said that India has long wished to command and control all goings on in “its” ocean and that a base in the west would allow it to have a far greater influence in this area. Apparently the new Comoran regime is being paid handsomely for the future construction of an Indian base. There is also a suspicion that as partial payment the Indian government and its assets will help persuade Mayotte to become a part of the Comoros once more. The French response to this situation was clear according to the spokesman. Firstly, if India got away with this it may encourage them to attempt further abuses of power. Secondly, the island nation of Mayotte is a French protectorate and deserves the best protection afforded by France.

The situation is extremely tense and a showdown appears to be on the cards between two mighty naval powers in the Indian Ocean. In the most recent satellite pass, the Indian aircraft carrier Viraat and her escorts had left their base at Bombay…

Battle Royal
By Mike Mykytyn

In 2005 it became clear that the world was changing. The Cold War was long over and Globalization was tranforming alliance systems world wide.

This was never so apparent as in Asia as the economic boom was only sustainable by those who control the regions natural resouces. Flash points would arise and battles would be fought between former friends and alliances formed with former enemies with the express purpose of driving new economies and reclaiming lost empires.

This was never more clear than than what occurred over the Spratly Islands that year.

This is an ASW/Asu/AAW scenario designed for 1-4 players. Duration is 1 day and hope you enjoy :)

Cousins
By Gianni Bartoli

France has decided to help Libya to develop its medium range missile system. This could be very dangerous for all Southern Europe countries especially for Italy (remember 1986), those missiles could reach even Rome.
United Nations had tried to persuade France to desist in its intetion, but nothing seems to work, so Italy has decided to act on its own.

Red Flag #1: Fox One
By Mike Mykytyn

Bluefor has begun to deploy as Greyfor's artillery continues to rain down on border villages and encampments. As the UN attempts to stop the war at the table Bluefor forces gear up to stop the war on and over the battlespace. At the same time Redfor announces its intention to prevent a Bluefor attack.

Although orbital assets provide broad snapshots of the overal picture its important for any force to deploy tactical reconaissance assets in hopes of really capturing what is going on at foot level. in real time It is even more important to protect those assets while doing so.

This is a 1-2 player AAW scenario with a duration of 3 hours. Good Luck!

Red Flag #2: Magnum
By Mike Mykytyn

War has erupted and both sides took casualties in the initial air battle over the frontier. Worldwide accounts of the battle begin to fill the airwaves as the various pundits begin to assess success and intentions. Meanwhile over the battlefield a second chapter develops.

Winning the electronic battle is crucial to winning the physical one.

This is a 1-2 player AAW scenario. If played as single player the bluefor side should be chosen as the player side although the redfor side is playable (just far less challening). Multiplay is definitely suggested. Scenario duration is 45 minutes.

Korean War #3: Russian Roulette
By Paul Bridge

DTG- 20 2300Z NOV 50

LOCAL- 21 0800 NOV 50
LOCATION- East Coast North Korea
SIDES- United Nations
DURATION- 8 Hours
NUKES OPTION- Off

Since the Successful landings at Inchon, UN forces have struck back at the Communist forces pushing them back to pre-war start positions.

Now is the time to strike deep into North Korean territory. USAAF B-29s have been tasked to strike three major Power Complexes, these are well protected by AAA Sites and Airfields.

With China now offically in the war things are libel to become hot, as 4 days ago USAAF A-26 Invaders made a major error in navigation and target ID and bombed a Soviet airfield by mistake resulting in many soviet casualties, reaction from Moscow has been of harsh words and threats of action, but nothing has happened….. Yet.

Cold War Games
By Mike Mykytyn

The late 50's was a remarkable period of Cold War naval history. Most nations had rebuilt and whole new classes of warships began entering the fleets with improved propulsions, radar and fire control systems. All of this was done under the context of another coming World War pitting the Western powers versus the Soviet Union.

One of the more remarkable classes of warship was the Soviet Sverdlov class Cruiser. It boasted a formidable gun armament, modern radars and an auxiliary propulsion system giving improved speed and manueverabilty over its Western counterparts. So important was discovering the secrets of this class of vessel that Western intellgence agencies invested heavily in cladestine operations to learn more about it (including the loss of the famed RN diver Lionel "Buster" Crabbe). It was truly a class of warships to be reckoned with.

This scenario pits a typical Soviet SAG against a typical NATO formation operating off coastal Norway in 1958. Who will prevail?

This is a 1-2 ASuW,ASW scenario with a duration of 8 hours.

Enjoy:)

Damn the torpedoes - Full speed ahead!
By Paul Bridge

DTG- 051200Z AUG 64
LOCATION- SOUTH AFRICA
SIDES- Soviets, United States.
NUKES- ON

With the war in the Atlantic and Pacific into its 3rd week, the Indian Ocean region seems quite by comparison....
Nato is in need of re-supplying its forces in Europe with the Suez Canal closed the only other option of supplying Europe from Australia is via the Horn of S. Africa.
Before war broke out 3 weeks ago a Large Soviet group left the Motherland and deployed on its annual world training cruise, in this group was numerous Destroyers, Cruisers and Submarines some missile armed, at present they remain unlocated somewhere in the Indian Ocean region.

The convoy has to reach Simonstown almost intact but the problem is no Strike Carriers can be released from the Pacific Fleet only the Old Yorktown converted to an ASW Carrier is available with an escort of gun armed Destroyers and Cruisers , the Pacific TF Commander could only spare 2 SAM fitted ships for Air Defense.
UK and South African forces have deployed to cover the route ro Simonstown using ASW Groups and mpa's, CAP and Strike are provided to cover the Yorktown groups transit to Simonstown but range is the limitation!

Mutual Assured Destruction
By Paul Bridge

Mike's show stopping Scenario called "BOOM!" is now a classic for a early/mid-1980s Nuclear Confrontation.
With Mike's permission I have built the same area of the world but set in 1963 at the height of the Cold War in the 1960s , using the B-47 Stratojet as SACs Bomber platform before been fully replaced by the B-52 Stratofortress. It should make an interesting confrontation...

Overview:
Increasing tensions with the USSR came to a climax at 0117Z today when a Soviet Hotel Class SSBN launched an SLBM strike at Washington DC.
The President survived the strike, and from Air Force One has ordered an all out Nuclear Strike on the Soviet mainland.

The Widow Maker
By Paul Bridge

Captain First Rank Alekseyev of the Ballistic Missile Submarine K-19 re-read the firing orders. Only an hour earlier he had decoded the signal together with the Political Officer - a man who was well above his station.
Together with his crew they had spent over 2 months at sea , a long time even for a top-line Hotel class SSBN; one of the finest in the Red Banner Fleet. But it had been hard on the crew; no sunlight, just recycled stale air and the smell of sweat.
Alex had spend the early part of his career on conventional boats in WW2, and the 1950s decided to transfer to the new nuclear boats…but why remain submerged for 2 months?
The reason was simple …remain undetected… close to the US Coast and conduct missile launch on the Capitalists. He had his orders; the time had come to Unleash the Dogs of War…..
