Events are randomized?

Post by darbygray »

I'm playing a solo game as the Allies. The Doolittle raid event was never triggered. Are some events randomized? I'm pretty sure I have had Changsha under my control the whole time.

It should happen every time if the conditions are met. Did you also move a carrier to the required distance from Japan?

What I meant to add was that the event was never offered. So I never was given the opportunity to move my carriers there. I've done it in the PBEM game I'm currently doing.

Press L and pull up the review log, maybe you accidently clicked away....I pressed ESC once and it treated the event as a "no."
The Doolittle raid comes up on the first turn as Allies, and icons around Japan.

The Doolittle Raid gets a mention in the Allied strategy pop-up near the start of the game along with a lot of other advice. So, it's easy to overlook since it's not a Decision Event where you have to say yes or no. As Nginear mentioned if the "Raid Icons" are currently displaying on the map in a radius around Japan then you should be able launch it anytime, even late into the game if you still hold Changsha. In my last game I didn't trigger it until 1944 as the Allied fleet closed in on Japan.

Under which category in the logs? I looked at all 4 and didn't see it...

Yeah, no icons around Japan, and I'm there a lot as I patrol with subs. And according to the logs, Changsha was never captured.

Just to clarify, in case there is some misunderstanding here: the Doolittle Raid isn't a Decision Event, it is something that automatically happens if the conditions are met, with them being explained in the pop up that appears at the start of the game.

If you blow through the usual retinue of Allied pop-ups at the beginning of the game, (like I often do) Doolittle's pop-up can be easy to miss. I'm at a loss as to why the raid icons wouldn't appear in darbygray's current game unless it's a bug.
