OpenTopoMap, Zoom Detail Level

Good Evening,

Build: Steam Beta 1328.2

Currently the highest detail level will not display for the OpenTopoMap layer and Stamen Terrain, works fine in Base Steam Version 1307.14.

FifthDomain, thank you for your report and the comparison screenshots. When you said that road names were not showing in this post, did you mean road names like "Drump Road" in your third screenshot in this thread above?

More the smaller streets shown such as Claremont Mews to the left of Drump Road in the third Image.

FifthDomain, thank you for your follow-up on this. A fix is the pipeline that should add some further zoom level to Stamen Terrain and OpenTopo.

Just tested this out it will zoom in further but the image detail/quality is still not as good as the non beta version. Some of detail is still missing and it looks blurry zoomed in. Have also just checked Sentinel-2 and that has the original zoom problem too. I think it's also affecting unit placement as the map moves thing placed on it will change position, i will make a new post for that with images.

Still exists in 1328.8

Currently the maps in the 32bit version much more clear at high zoom levels, if you view this on a big screen its quite blurry and dotty, i,m currently viewing on 32" monitor. In the 32bit version you can see street names, house numbers and no blurring. The tiles do load faster though in the 64bit version.

Confirming the issue, in my case blurriness or edges are visible when map renders (depending on zoom level), though it renders quicker than in previous prod version.

I just had a look at opentopo maps to see if they had lost their detail, basically it just not fetching the highest zoom map tiles, there is another stage after what's currently been shown in game. That final level is the most detailed one with house numbers etc shown. Example below. This was available in the 32bit but lost with the 64bit, IMO probably needed more now that Stamen has gone.

Hi, indeed it is being actively tweaked, here is a screenshot from the current dev build:

I don't know if this will help but Opentopo has 9 levels of zoom the one you show there is level 2, but there is another layer after that, it is more detailed and will probably be far more crisp when zoomed in as shown in my picture in the post above, it was in 32bit but lost in the transition to 64bit. I dont think its anything other that the level 2 zoom level showing as level 1. I have included Screenshots below with each zoom level direct from OpenTopo website (https://opentopomap.org/) this should show what i'm talking about better. It will show the difference between zoom levels 1 and 2. It's just not fetching zoom level 1 for below 500m from OpenTopo so when you zoom in close its on level 2 so it gets distorted.

EDIT: OpenTopo level 1 (currently missing ingame) should be what you see in game below camera height 1000m and level 2 (currently level 1 [max zoom in] ingame) from 1000m to 4000m approximately. This should resolve the distortion seen at max zoom in.
