A suggestion for a new coming DLC

Rule the Waves III is a simulation of naval ship design and construction, fleet management and naval warfare from 1890 to 1970. and will place you in the role of 'Grand Admiral' of a navy from the time when steam and iron dominated warship design up to the missile age.

A suggestion for a new coming DLC

Post by woos1981 »

I really hope to include a feature in new coming DLC that allows players to customize the location, type, and number of coast gun and airports, as this would greatly expand the richness of naval combat. Thank you!

Thanks for the feedback.

Could you please explain in a bit more detail what you mean exactly?

I have this issue as well. I built a big new coastal artillery battery for the Japanese when they took Sakhalin. I assumed, wanted it to be right at the La Perouse Straits to pummel Russians trying to come through, but instead it was located up by Korsakov where the enemy absolutely never goes. Total waste of money. Also, I'd like to be able to put airbases where I need them. Sometimes you get lucky and the base is right where it is needed, near the choke point or evenly distributed across an area, but there are also areas where there is friendly territory nearby but no base within reasonable aircraft range. Lots of spots in Southeast Asia like this. In general, I'd like to be able to choose to build a coastal base or fortification and then have a map interaction where I place it - maybe there could be an added cost if you build it farther from one of the game-designated bases? But of course there were actually ports and airports in all kinds of places.

In the case of fortifications, they are currently placed randomly every battle.

Part of the problem is that Human players - especially once they've gained some experience - can predict where the batteries will be most useful and thereby get another edge over the AI. Can you imagine the issues if you could blanket a colony's invasion site with fortifications?

My solution would be twofold:

Firstly, a selection of fixed locations that can support a fortress - and some of the locations could be calibre limited.

Then field batteries and railway guns can take over the randomly generated role.

The invasion area should be pretty random too. Or there should be a selection of them based on the actual geography. Honestly, I think in the historical case, defenders could figure out pretty quickly the three or four places where the enemy could realistically make a major invasion and put up appropriate fortifications - the Atlantic Wall, for example.

The AI should have a better idea of where coastal batteries should be.

Another way to do it - instead of building one battery at a time, maybe you can invest in coast defenses for an area and the game generates batteries randomly more or less where you need them. Remembering that at least in the US armed forces, Coast Defense Artillery was part of the Army.

Will the DLC give us the hability to design the fleets to be used in the battle generator? Let me explain, I design ships for several nations and then make them fight.
-If we have to retreat, where we will retreat sir??

In the quick battle system, players will be able to design ships for their own and opposing nations or they can use AI-generated ships.

- Will you expand the timeframe so we can build Broadside Ironclads?

- Will you add new ship graphics? there are many modders that can add their work to the official game.
