[1.1.0.0] Stuttering after half an hour or so

Post by Korbul »

I'm experiencing performance issues after some time of gameplay.
I'm on a laptop with:
16 gb ram,
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10750H CPU @ 2.60GHz (12 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
I've also attached dxdiag info

Here is a video demonstrating the issue (NOTICE THE GAME IS PAUSED)
https://imgur.com/a/9T6V2yi

Restarting the games fixes this, however it slowly creeps back in.

I specified version 1.1.0.0 but it happened on previous versions as well.

I've looked at the task manager after taking this video and the process consumed about 8gb of ram.
Also, it used the ssd intensively as can be seen from the disk column. My guess is windows was running out of ram and started using virtual memory. I don't think this is the main issue tho, as the stuttering creeps in slowly with a few stutters here and there and gets worse and worse with time.

One other thing, the game does not process input if it happens to be during a stutter. I often click things and it does not register because I clicked during a mini freeze.

Please help

Code: Select all

Available OS Memory: 16252MB RAM
Page File: 12326MB used, 21333MB available
So you are using 28.5GB memory in total, 8 of which are taken by the game.
What are you running that uses 20GB of memory?

Maybe you could maximise the task manager window, then sort by memory usage and do a screenshot of the whole screen?

The reason why you have that issue every now and then is because the game has MAJOR MEMORY LEAKS.

Its builds up and up and up until game stutters or even bombs.

Because you exit the memory gets released, so when you go back in its using only small amount again of your memory, then slowly builds up and up and up.

Rinse and repeat, so until they fix their millions of bugs, including this major memory hole, the problem will continue.

That is the answer to your problem. You have to exit the game every now and again to release the memory.

Your welcome.

This is ... not correct. Please show me in this screenshot of Process Explorer where DistantWorlds2.exe is leaking GBs of memory:

His screenshot clearly shows the game using 8GB, and something else on this rig is using 20GB ... .

Dont just say i am incorrect if you have no idea. I was talking about my experience as well as friends experience. I have 16GB of gaming ram and this game eats and eats and eats until its using all 16gb of my ram.
So do not say i am incorrect. You can post what you want, i am telling this person the reason its using lots of ram is because of major memory leak.
If you cannot handle that info, not my problem.

If you use Shift-Tilde (~) to turn on the in-game overlay, what do you see happening to your FPS during those apparent stutters?

Did you have this issue in all versions of the game or just recent ones?

What size galaxy are you playing in?

This isn't what the screenshot shows.

DistantWorlds2.exe is using only 8 GB of RAM.

The page file is a reserved space on the disk to load data into RAM faster.

The process is using 8 GB of RAM, and 414 MB/s data read/write. The page file is 12 GB. There is a total of 16 GB of RAM available.

An additional 9 GB is available on the disk for the page file.

Result: 8 GB is used by Distant Worlds 2.
Program memory usage cannot be over the RAM amount.

I have noticed input issues myself.

This looks like a well developed galaxy.

I don't think this is a RAM issue, but a graphics card one.

Unfortunately the DW2 system requirements listed on the store are not really sensibly linked to gameplay. My guess is your graphics card doesn't have enough grunt for the game, despite being well over minimum requirements.

I assume you have made sure you are using your dedicated graphics card, and not the intel.

I am experiencing stuttering and slowdowns as well. On my system it associated with high "bus interface load" and texture memory fluctuations.
Could you run GPU-Z (https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/) in the background while playing and check if you get repeatedly fluctuating bus loads >25% as well?
