As a result the built station can end up excluding resources which were expected to be in range because the gathering field is measured from the station not the roid and the station is put in an arbitrary position miles away from anywhere!
This is inconsistent and misleading, see screens showing a station missed out on a high yield roid because of this (proven to be a miss as it is picking up more steel then mebnar).
Expected behaviour is an accurate projection of the built station gathering field prior to building.
To provide suggestions, maybe this could be achieved in various ways.
- Simplest would be to project the field from the future station location when ordering the station, not the roid.
- Alternatively you could try to get the station a bit closer to the roid IMHO. Not sure if there is any reason the station should not replace the roid, remove the roid model but retain its resource attributes, reverse on destruction of course.
- Or you could just deploy the gathering field at the asteroid and treat the station as displaced.
