Fighter-triggered CTD

There appears to be a CTD triggered by fighter combat, or atleast I haven't had any CTDs besides those associated with a significant amount of fighters. Here's my error log, it looks like an access violation in the ESI register, whatever that is

It really seems like there is some improper handling of the first/second string in the ESI register.  Perhaps you have a special case where you toast the 2nd string value before you're supposed to?  Also, this was in a mission without fighters, so I guess it has nothing to do with ship type.
