Couple of questions

I have the demo from the 2000 release, and was wondering first of all if there was an updated demo, or if this is in the works?

Also, is it possible to upgrade ships in the full game? This is not an option in the demo, and I find it quite a hinderence in the 3rd demo mission when the Hive is coming at the empire every which way :(
