FPC:RS News for March 2013

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

FPC:RS News for March 2013

Post by CapnDarwin »

I figured it was time to let you all know what we are doing and whwere we stand on things. So here we go:

1. In the past two weeks we team has shifted the name of the game from Flashpoint Germany 2: Red Storm or FPG2:RS to the more proper name of Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm or FPC:RS. We did this to better reflect the modular nature and expandability of the core game engine. Red Storm covers the 80's in Central Europe and has the same nations as the original FPG. We do plan on expanding both this starting module with more nations, scenarios, etc, but we are also looking at new content modules as well. Assuming the game sells and folks want more stuff. [:D]

2. Work on getting the PBEM++ up and running is going slower than we would like, but it is getting close to testing.

3. We are still killing smaller and smaller bugs. Fixing data errors and glitches. Moving files and folders into final structures for future use. A bigger job then it sounds by the way, but it does help show any bad pathing assignments in the code.

4. We implemented a new and better system for determining the number of orders a side gets if you play with limited staff orders on. Instead of being a fixed value in the data files it is now dynamically calculated based on what is in the scenarios and the modifiers for EW impact and unit losses have moved to the data section.

5. We are close to getting both box art and a documentation guy from Matrix. Once they are free from finishing the project they are on we will slide into their queue. Hopefully that will also be at the same time we get an official announcement and dedicated forum section. Then we will really talk up what is going on.

6. Steve is working on scenarios. We have a bunch of them.

7. Rob and I are bug huinting and working on getting the last of the required game engine bits up and running correctly. This includes AI tweaking and responding to our Beta testers.

So that is a quick run down on things. Thanks and keep checking in!

6. Steve is working on scenarios. We have a bunch of them.

By my last count there are 15 stand alone scenarios. Each being playtested for players taking NATO, Warsaw Pact and Head to Head game play. That amounts to 45 scenarios that are of various size and not linked in a campaign.

Campaign scenarios are separate.

Some more info for those checking in.

In the past couple days we managed to knock out the last of the annoying bugs with the skinning of a few controls in the game making for a nicer more consistant looking UI. A small thing but we live for the little touches and details.

Rob and I are both looking though the code and debugging, optimizing and refining sections of code. The focus is on the last few adjustments for combat related functions. We are slowly beating down an odd issue with spotting in certain cases, but I think we have a bead on it now. There is a ton of calculations and values crunched under the hood for any given action and making adjustments is similar to riding an enraged bull through a china shop. Very easy to break things with one wrong move. We live for that challenge too.

Scenario work continues, slowed a bit by some crazy day job issues for Steve, but we are working on getting some more firepower sent his way to help out.

Rob and I will be starting on playing the PBEM++ this week and squish any bugs we find. Should be entertaining.

We should also be starting on documentation as soon as I hook up fully with Matrix's document guy.

Erik was checking on our box art and other things. Hopefully we will get a green light soon for the Coming soon section of the forum.

Thanks for listening.
