Update? and question about any eventual release

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

The project is very active and we took advantage of the holidays to get more done.

- The program is written in Embarcadero Delphi and I just finished converting the code to the latest XE2 version. This required starting over with the skinning engine with the user interface but I have a much better one now and the job is 90% complete. It will be a lot more useful going forward.

- We realigned the duties between Jim and I so that I can take over the final data input so that we can move that part of the project along faster. I am putting together the TOE information for Egypt, Israel, Syria and Jordan myself based on the research that Jim provided. I expect that long awaited step to be done in two weeks.

- There is a very interesting podcast called "Three Moves Ahead" (find it in iTunes store) that I have been listening to. It is full of game design insights and I find I have been adjusting the game as a result to make it clearer, more fun and less work to play. I have made all the changes that I am going to for FPME but a few more might work their way in for the Red Storm (NATO v WP) later.

- I'm pretty happy with how large portions of the game is working now and I'll try hard to leave well enough alone! I ran a utility that tells me that only 12% of the existing code is from FPG and I can believe it. I did end up rewriting a lot more than I expected and that slowed the whole project down. Now it is time just to finish it up and get feedback on the new features.

More when I know it, cheers, Rob C

great news, if you need a newbie player to test all aspects from manual, UI and game play including tutorials I would be more than happy to assist.

Looking good so far, can't imagine I wouldn't buy FPME and especially FPRS. In the interim, I'd even buy a reasonably sized set - 3 or 4 - new maps for FPG.

I'm familiar with FPG and would also be happy to beta test all aspects alongside Saruwatarikaito if needed. I can run the program on both Windows 7 and Windows XP.

Gent's,

I plan to start shaking the trees in a few weeks for playtesters as soon as Rob is ready with a "complete" build. I need some time to jump in and clean up the skinning of the game to sync with the new tool/control from the change to XE2. One plus from the new development software is native 64 bit compiles. Not that the game needs it right now, but down the road having more memory to do more things will be nice.

FPG Maps. About a 9.6 on the pain scale. There is no editor per se for them. All hand drawn art. Pretty, but not very easy to use as a topo map with minimal terrrain items.

One good thing about the Flashpoint 2.0 engine is Rob and I have made ease of editing damn near everything a requirement. Art, sound, maps, data, scenarios, campaigns (once folded in). Data will be weapons, platforms, OOB, national ratings and some special capabilities toggles. Along with that the game have a good number of settings like FPG to setup interface element to your liking.

Hi,

Any news about the game? How playtesting is going?
Now I have time enough to be a playtester if you still wish.

Regards,

Emilio
