Player's notes : England stands alone.

How important is the Med to Great Britain? How important to the Axis? Just now we are fighting the Axis by ourselves, with occasional flickers of activity from minor powers. We have put a fair amount of our strength in the Med because the Axis is very active there. With the loss of Gibraltar the Med will become an Axis lake if we are driven out. It is tough for the British after France falls, and before the Americans and Soviets join in.

Should the Soviets attack Germany while the British still have a position to defend in the Med? I suspect not. The reason we are there is we have vital interests there, VP cities, and a huge supply stream from the Empire. However these very strong Germans are going to strike the USSR soon no matter what, and we want the Red Army to be at the strongest it can be. The best thing the Soviets can do for Britain is to give the Axis a very hard time after the Germans attack. If the Axis takes Alex and Cairo it will cost them time, and in the long run the time might be more important than any Mediterranean distraction in '42 or '43.

We will defend hard in the Nile Delta, however the Axis can beat us there, but at a price in time.

Comrade Stalin conveys his respect for the heroic British and thanks for them for occupying the Germanic hordes in Africa and elsewhere. Unfortunately, it is out of the question to erect a monument in honor for capitalist fighters in the Soviet Union but we consider a honorary mentioning when opening up the new Orsk town hall.

(I have made bad experiences with an early USSR attack on Germany in another game even though that was on top of it also poorly executed by myself. The USSR forces are en large not offensive in composition and can probably inflict overall more damage in defense than offense. Against a +50% Germany the USSR attack will be even less convincing. After a few initial turns, the result will be that the USSR looses quicker and will have played into the Axis hand by giving up some of its defensive boni. Of course, if a German attack is not forthcoming by a certain point in time, proactive measure have to be taken).

19410401 : Whew, these are serious Axis forces in the Mediterranean. Even in Iraq we see a Panzer Korps, but Bagdad still holds and a major insurgency is starting up, with frequent occurences of roadside bombs.

19410416 : Cairo falls, of course, and we prepare a bastion in Aleaxandria, but it has only local supply. We deploy more forces in Greece.

19410524 : No pictures this turn. It is quiet in the Med, and for us the quiet of defeat. We spent the turn repairing damaged ships, for a war at sea has been going on in the Atlantic. No pitched battles but constant raiding and defending. Both the American fleet and the Royal Navy participating against the Germans, Italians, and Spanish.
