Brilliant Game...

Unity of Command lets you replay the epic conflict that was the Stalingrad Campaign of World War II. In this turn-based game of strategy and cunning, observe how opportunity leads the German army to advance recklessly into the steppes of southern Russia. And as the story unfolds, join the Soviet campaign to repel the invaders... As these legendary battles play out on the hex board, the tension of decision making and difficulties of conducting operations on a massive scale emerge. Command armies and fronts in maneuver warfare, thrust and encircle, capture cities and cross continents; but never, ever forget to watch your supply lines. The Red Turn expansion ads a gigantic Soviet expansion centered on the Kursk campaign.

UoC has that perfect blend of simplicity and depth that I call elegance.

+1

This game compliments other Russian Front games that may be more detailed, more realistic, more accurate, etc. But this is fast & fun to play, and we need that too.

I play as if I would not get affected by weather, because if I am I have to restart anyway. So for me it's currently like playing with predetermined weather, with random restarts added. I'm not saying you should throw out the random weather, but add an option for predetermined and none. If the weather had an impact on the strategy I would be all for random weather.

Regarding victory conditions, I would prefer more strategic options rather than being forced through a historical progression. You could always have a 'Historical Victory' which gave more points like today, but it should not be required to continue the campaign IMO.

Personally, while I found the original UC a great little game, both Red Turn and, so far, Black Turn, have been *far* too easy. I sailed through Red Turn almost without having to replay a single map, while with the original game it must have taken 10 tries to win the Stalingrad map alone. So I have not been impressed with the expansions.

Well I must just suck then because the game is making me look silly.

What I'd like in a scenario is a balanced force battle without the time constraints where only the proper attacks leave you with enough forces to take the objectives. Maybe some of the later battles are that way, I don't know.

Overall, I like the game quite a bit and it's fast paced, easy to pick up nature. Very good price for some hours of quick fun. It is puzzle like at this point for me so that is a downside, but maybe that is just the nature of the game. It does however adequately occupy a space in my collection. A nice diversion from the scratch your head 1 hour turn monsters.

You're correct, it's a nice diversion game. As long as you don't take it for a "Serious" historical simulation!

The sides in the original were more evenly matched than in Red Turn or Black Turn, and I balanced the scenarios in a different way than Tomislav as well.

Winning itself is often not very hard, but winning without buying specialist steps or units and getting a BV can be tricky.

Like Treale said, it isn't meant to be a (hardcore) serious historical simulation, it's a casual wargame with a mostly historical OOB.

... The game is worth every cent.

Thanks Trooper, but can anyone compare this title to another popular title?

IMHO this title is in a class of it's own.
The game play, graphics, music all blend together to form a highly playable game.
It's worth the money. That's my opinion....
Other's might disagree.

I agree. Outstanding game with tons of potential.

You know what Comrade P, what is a historical simulation? I'd say this game captures the essence of the eastern front with the key elements of railroad logistics, exploiting gaps and forming pockets. More complexity is not always the answer. Thank you for your efforts into this game. Now how about UoC as a grand strategy game. It would be perfect.
