In the “What’s New” under “v3.1.0.9 February 27, 2007”, item 17 says:

“Simple Map Import/Export (partial maps). You can edit the file to change the “Offset”, being defined as the offset from min of the starting position of the map that's being imported. It’s recommended to use even steps (2,4,6,8) for the X and Y axes to avoid artifacts. Min and max define the map size of the area to import.”

That’s probably not clear enough for most people. To clarify it, I’ve provided a “How to…” example as follows:

Step One: Load the scenario with the map to merge (CFNA in this example) and export its map to an XML file using the “Save Map(XML) As…” option located on the “File” pulldown:

Step Two: Open the exported XML file into an XML editor (Note that item 7 in this same section of the “What’s New” has a link to a free editor called XMLPad.):

On the highlighted line, note the values “offsetx”, “offsety”, “minx”, “miny”, “maxx”, and “maxy”.

offsetx is the horizontal distance into the target map that the merged map will start from.
offsety is the vertical distance down into the target map that the merged map will start from.
minx is the first horizontal location on the merged map that will be used.
miny is the first vertical location down the merged map that will be used.
maxx is the last horizontal location on the merged map that will be used.
maxy is the last vertical location down the merged map that will be used.

Step Three: Edit those six parameters as desired and save the edited version.

Here I’ve set them so that the NW corner of the merged map will be offset to hex 40,40 in the target map, and hex columns 208 through 223 and hex rows 98 through 109 of the merged map will be used:

Step Four: Open the scenario with the target map (“France 1944 D-Day” in this example) and import the edited XML file using the “Open Map(XML)” option located on the “File” pulldown:

The cropped map (columns 208-223 & rows 98-109) will be merged into the target map (at hex 40,40) as shown:

(Note that there is a bug with the placenames – they aren’t being merged and the target map’s placenames are being retained. That was once fixed, and will hopefully be fixed again down the line.)

Here’s another view using the micromap. Clearly, part of the CFNA map around El Alamein has been inserted into the France 1944 map, starting at hex 40,40.

Note that 'Le Harve' is actually 'Le Havre.'

Hmm. So it is. Unlikely to be another France 1944 update for a bit, so I suggest that Le Havre change its name instead.
