1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)

Post by goodboyladdie »

No House Rules at the start, as both Martin and I are sensible "realistic" players. Any issues arising in game will be discussed and resolved. Britain and the Commonwealth, France and the Netherlands are to remain neutral unless provoked.

We are now three turns in. So far Martin has gone for a PI first strategy. This is not a closed AAR so I will not discuss strategy or deployment, unless Martin wishes to start his own thread. As these AARs on the WPO forum seem to die out through lack of interest, it'll probably be easier to keep it going if we both contribute.

For now, I'll be restricting the AAR to posting combat reports, but as I learn more about how to post pictures and more starts to happen I plan to upgrade the presentation. Martin has redone the Allied plane sides as well as some ships, so I will be posting examples of these at some point. I also have some of Fremen's WPO ship art installed which will also be demonstrated.

edit: We are running version 1.205u

Don't get too excited, my friend. This is a backburner game which is averaging one or two turns a week, so there will not be frequent updates. I'll try to make what I do post pretty by way of compensation... [;)]

Hi Carl,

Very cool! How do you like WPO? I've never played it - but off and on have thought about spending the coin tp purchase it. Now I'm pining away for AE <laughter>.

Is there an enhanced version 2 play against the AI?

Hi Mike

I have only played it a little because the AI is a bit hapless. I had a game with Wolfie that died due to PC problems. When I saw Dixie was doing work on the art I offered him a challenge because I love the feel of the game. Wolfie was very aggressive, but I think this is Dixie's first game and so far he has not been. Having said that it is early days and in this game there really is no need to hurry. Everything takes a while...

I think PBEM offers better options because the Jap player can be overwhelmed quite easily if facing more than the US. In this 1922 start the Grand Fleet turn up after about 140 days.

There are mods available, but I have never played the stock scenarios fully so have not looked at them yet.

edit: ps I am doing my EOS turn, but it is taking ages as I have a lot to get moving. There are all these nasty red things sitting around PH - most unsightly...

So it starts in 1922; when is the end date for the campaign? Do you know if the Japanese player controls production to the same degree as in WiTP?

I believe production is off for the Japs. You get what you get when you get it!

The early campaign runs 1922-1926 and the late campaign and the Super Dreadnoughts campaign run from 1926-1930.

Here is USS Rochester (with Dixie Art). She was the hero of the night action in the last turn. CA Huron and half of the DDs did not enter the action. Rochester had a small fire and expended two thirds of her ammunition. As you can see the fire is already out. One DD has flood damage of 22. Although they came off better against the escorts, the convoy was untouched. This tf was very lucky not to encounter the Japanese bombardment force in the same hex which was based around BBs!

Dixie advances into Chinese territory after resources. The Chinese have very little to oppose him. We do not know what to do about his Shanghai SNLF. It cannot move out of Shangahi as all the surrounding hexes are under my control. I figure it would not have been there if the Japs knew war was coming. Any ideas how we can move it to safety without getting the French and Commonwealth involved in the shooting war?

edit - well that was the plan. The file is too large. I shall have to learn how to crop it...
