Could Imperial Japan overtake China, Indochina, and India while abandoning the Philippines and most of its Pacific possessions?

Let's find out...

Overall score, 8/2/1922

Minor advances in China: Tiensin falls and a few other southern Chinese towns. Movement is sluggish and fatigue is building up.

First units land in the Philippines; it is a minor offensive, only 2 divisions strong, designed to tie down the defenders rather than overrun them.

Yeah I don't think the AI is gonna give you much of a fight in this one. IIRC most of the Chinese are "locked down" by the "WarLord" devices. So you're gonna be basically taking out a big pile of "bunkers" (cities). One by one. Might be a bit tough because they have a lot of troops. But it should be fairly "mathematical".

Yeah... roads are crappier. I should not have chosen Foochow as the main landing port in the beginning of the game...

The real question is - will US and UK come and cut all those IJA troops off?

Still a lot of besieging. IJA spread its forces too thin and is now committed to 5 battlefields:

Peking
Shanghai
Camranh Bay (Indochina)
Hangchow
Bataan.

Several infantry divisions took quite a beating, mainly from walking into a Chinese-held city just prior to the arrival of other troops.

AI is very timid with its forces... I hope that is just a part of some master plan and not ai being, well, ai...

Learning more and more important lessons.

1. Don't spread out. I bet both Bataan and Shanghai could have been defeated long time ago...

2. Identify supply and fuel stockpiles and use them up, rather than just concentrating on Tokyo and Osaka's reserves.

3. A Naval HQ for every port with ship repair points...

The situation is ok. In the north a couple of base forces will probe Aleutian islands. In the east Hosho with an escort of CLs made a run for Pearl Harbor, only to narrowly escape ravaging NBS-1s. In the south AMCs are mining every major allied port. In the west 2 infantry brigades are camped out by Saigon while two more are blockading Hanoi. And in China every major resource is shifted to siege Shanghai. Nothing in the PI.
