Worth buying on sale?

John Tiller's Battleground Series is a Hall of Fame lineup of games covering the Civil War and Napoleonic Wars. We've compiled these classic games into two new affordable collections, incorporating updated versions of these legendary titles. Incredible historical gameplay and great value!

Worth buying on sale?

Post by mf1248 »

Been playing the old Talonsoft Battleground games on a virtual machine, it's been awhile since I've played them and I think they are still good. I know the latest versions are at WDS. Are the ones you get here enough of an upgrade of the Talonsofts to make it worthwhile to get them when they go on sale? I have some WDS titles and I really like them but there is something about playing these old games that I really like. I got the SSG games here when they were on sale for less than chump change and they are a definite improvement of the originals (they were good too!) so I'm hoping these will be like that. Thanks in advance...

I've not noticed any significant upgrade. To be honest, I prefer my dosboxed copies of the Talonsoft games simply for the larger fonts. I have to do a lot of squinting with the full screen Matrix version. The Napoleonic game here also contains Age of Sail though, which to me made it well worth the sale price.

Thanks, I've been playing the WDS Napoleon and CW demos and they are a definite upgrade. I still play the old ones, Battleground Antietam was the first John Tiller game that I ever played. I did score JT Campaign series here and will get the Vietnam and Middle East ones as well. I have the Age of Sail disk for some reason I never tried it, gonna fire it up today.
