Adding background music

From the legendary team at 2 by 3 Games comes a new grand strategy masterpiece: Gary Grigsby’s War Between the States. Taking gamers back to the American Civil War, this innovative grand strategy game allows players to experience the trials and tribulations of the role of commander-in-chief for either side. Historically accurate, detailed and finely balanced for realistic gameplay, War Between the States is also easy to play and does not take months to finish.

Adding background music

Post by tedhealy »

I've got a few civil war songs on my computer and I'd like to add them to the 3 or so songs played as bg music, is there anyway to do this?

Yes, as long as they're in the right format there's a sound config file where you can add them in. I'll see if I can put together some instructions for that to post in the Mods sub-forum.

Lemme see if I figured it out [:D]

In cwSoundFXConfig at the bottom

Add line(s) for music to be played for both sides
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,FILENAME1.wav,100)

Add line(s) for music to played for CSA side only
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Confed,FILENAME2.wav,100)

Add line(s) for music to be played for USA side only
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Union,FILENAME3.wav,100)

Then just make sure to have those FILENAMEx.wav files in the sound folder.

Yep, that's it, it's the section at the bottom that currently consists of:

Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,intro.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,music03.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,music01.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,music02.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,Us_Theme.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Generic,intro_theme_nodrum_forloop.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Confed,Dixie_Battleground.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Confed,For_Bales_Battleground.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Union,Battle_Hymn_Battleground.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Union,Battle_Hymn_AF.wav,100)
Music($Music,$Ambience,$Union,For_Bales_Battleground.wav,100)

I just turn off the music in most ACW games and toss in one of many appropriate CD's from my collection! The right music can really add a lot to any gaming session.
