First game as France AAR

Post by jjdenver »

Hi,

Spadman if you are reading this leave the thread pls - this is not for your eyes to see! :)

I have no experience w/ CNAW and neither does my opponent, spadman. We are playing a PBEM game with no advantage to either side (v1.06). What follows are my (mis)adventures as supreme ruler of France.

French fleet attempts to break out of the British ring at Trafalgar, but fails. A French frigate squadron from Brest makes sail into the Atlantic hunting convoys or wounded British ships retreating from Trafalgar. There is also some skirmishing in the channel.

French Italian army advances on Venice but no combat.

La Grande Armee surges forward, killing 3 Austrian infantry corps. The artillery from Italy is moved up to support the main effort.

French push forward on Vienna, damaging the Austrian artillery. Some replacements are taken which slows the advance but they will be needed for the push on Vienna.

At Trafalgar the French frigate arrives and eliminates a 1 point British ship of the line squadron. I'm kind of regretting bringing the Frigate down now because it took 6 strength losses to eliminate the 1 point Brit squadron. The Batavian heavy squadron is also making its way down through the channel.

French fleet flees north from the battle of Trafalgar but runs into a net of British frigates as they sail north. Nelson's ship was sunk, and he's wounded for 10 turns.

Austrians launched some counterattacks near Venice and Vienna but French launch more assaults and approach the city.

The British navy sinks the tattered remnants of the French fleet.

Napoleon launches an attack on the Austrian right flank with some success, however heavy rains for the last 2 months have greatly slowed the pace of operations and it looks like the battle for Vienna will be a long one. Many corps are only able to advance one hex due to rain and rough terrain. It also looks like Russians are showing up in some force. There is now a light infantry and a light cavalry corp defending Vienna.

French only had 2 turns of clear weather and it's still rainy - they slog forward very slowly, edging around the Austrian north flank. Italian forces approach slowly across the hills to the south of Vienna to harass the Austrian left.

As 1806 begins the French have made some progress on the Austrian north flank, and Vienna is in sight. To the south, French light infantry and the Italians have driven back the Austrian left flank, dealing a sharp blow to Austrian artillery.

Miserable weather continues.
