Set Objective/Town Banners error

Frank Hunter's Campaigns on the Danube is an operational study of the campaigns along the Danube in 1805 and 1809. Campaigns on the Danube's system focuses on trying to present the player with the same sort of decisions placed on their historical counterparts; how to feed an army and move that army according to a plan, all the while trying to fight a campaign. There is also an option to allow players to play out the battles with miniatures and input the results.

Set Objective/Town Banners error

Post by Rasputitsa »

From discussion in the Support thread

There is an issue in setting a corps/unit objective to a hex which contains a banner (town name) graphic:

If you try to 'Set Objective' to a hex which has a town name graphic overlaid, then the objective will be set instead to that named town hex itself (one hex lower on the map).

It's not a big issue, as it is solved by turning off 'Map Names' whenever you need to select a hex with a banner graphic overlaid.

In the image I have tried to 'set objective' for HOHENZOLLERN to the hex (66,09) situated under the NIKOLSBURG banner, but the game selects the NIKOLSBURG town hex (66,10) itself, one hex lower on the map.

This 'Set Objective' / over town banners problem mostly goes unnoticed as it's only a small error, but in the 'Crisis on the Danube' scenario, when attempting to set an objective to the hex on the North side off the river (65,17), where the VIENNA banner is displayed, the game sets the objective as VIENNA itself, but with the bridges down, the AI then plots a long diversion route, either through KREMS, or PRESSBURG.

This applies where there is a road leaving a town to the North, as the next road hex is under the town name banner and this applies in all versions of the game and with all selections of graphics, stock issue, or mods.

RE: Set Objective/Town Banners error

Here is the issue with the 'Crisis on the Danube' scenario :

I wanted to set the objective for HOHENZOLLERN as hex (65,17), North of the river Danube, but because of the VIENNA town banner effect, the objective became hex (65,18) VIENNA and with the Danube bridges down, that means a diversion through KREMS, or PRESSBURG.

So, the fix is to turn off 'Map Names' (button left side panel), if you want to set an objective to a hex under a town banner graphic.
