lining up Unit properties image...
lining up Unit properties image...
Hi all
I need some help getting a custom image to line up correctly...as you can see the new graphic does not cover the original graphic underneath. I didn't notice any size requirement in the manual so I made the image the same as the original. Thanks for your help and thanks to Uffz Feuerhake for the graphic I edited. : )

RE: lining up Unit properties image...
Hi Jack54,
you are welcome [;)]
The new / old background looks really nice ... it is a matter of taste, I would prefer a "more realistic" background like a meadow and the sky - like the background of the officer-screen - .... maybe we / you should experiment more in this direction?
A further problem could be when the pictures become a little bit more three-dimensional f.e. with a horse behind the cavalier (Have a look on my new Saxon cavalry)
Nevertheless please try your best!
I have discovered, that an original pic becomes a little bit more voluminous in the game.
So I have to create the soldiers in the original a little bit smaller in the white field (220 x 356 pixel) of the picture frame

RE: lining up Unit properties image...
Jack,
I can not comprehend this problem. Do you want to compare a screenshot with an original frame with your example, or why I can see two frames, one on top of the other??
Please tell me how do you build a new example of f.e. the original InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga

Hi Prince,
I found out from the manual that You cannot use the full property page as a unit image because the program will center the custom image on the left side of the properties page; I'm using the image inside the frame only see post #3 above...
I still have to work on the size; It is supposed to cover the generic unit image... I'm still trying...

RE: lining up Unit properties image...
Hi Jack,
with a little bit more time I would have the leisure to experiment with the machine too. But with your input above I have a question:
If you are using only the new little portrait image and the result is a new displaced image over the original image ("default generic portrait")...... what would be the result, when you only delete the little portrait image frame in the original file (respectively repaint it with the known background texture like my shown jpg-example)?
Maybe a new image with new (slightly different) coordinates over an empty portraitless - and so unproblematic - background? (This could be a solution without new sizes etc.....hypothetical)
Greetings

RE: lining up Unit properties image...
Hi Uffz,
I edited the generic unit properties file; I moved the generic unit image over to where the costum image will cover it...this must be done to each generic file ie grenadiers, light cavalry, medium cavalry ect.
this process works but I'm sure it is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us this option...perhaps Vol 2 will be different.
A blank properties page will not show an image unless assigned a costum one in the editor...every unit in every scenario...a lot of work
all the best!

We need another Vol 1-Update
Hi Jack,
now I have the same experience and I know the problem.....aaaargh.
First I deleted the original "InfantryLinePropertiesDlg.tga" and my new file was shown alone, but it was stretched unproportional.
Then I used only a new small portrait wihout the big frame and I had the same result like you in your last message above.
Of course it would be possible to create a new graphic file with a size, that cover the complete "old" small graphic frame, BUT.....you wrote: [...] but I'm sure it is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us this option...perhaps Vol 2 will be different.
My opinion: Yes, I think that this error is not what the developers were thinking when they gave us (obviously without testing!) this option! I am not sure, that Vol 2 will be different! I think, we need another update for Vol 1, because we have a "legitimate interest" on a functioning Vol 1.
So I don't want to invest more time to create a lot of pictures without a expectation of the necessary patch!
We need contact to the developers!

Hi Jack,
good idea to move the original frame to the "new" position..... it works without stretchings etc. ?

RE: We need another Vol 1-Update
Hi Jack,
yes, of course I know...but I think when 3 people would locate f.e. a striking brake-construction-problem in a notable japanese car, Nissan....aeehm, an intelligent company wouldn't wait for hundreds of other requests in the face of bad publicity
your example looks really good. The inner frame enrichment is reducing the main portrait a bit too much......
Do you think, when I am changing your jpg-example in a tga-file, there will be a loss of quality??
Would you please send a zip with your created tga-file of the changed main frame? So it would be easier to rework my old scans and the new scans into the "only portrait frame.tga"-version of every (!) unit.

RE: We need another Vol 1-Update
Uffz here is the line infantry tga...you can use it as a template for the others eg: grenadiers, various cavalry ect..
I didn't realize the IR3 figure was small until I compared it with the originals... my fault others look better : )
all the best!

I re-did the generic;
grenadier, light cavalry, med calvary, and heavy cavalry so far...they seem to work ok. If you need them let me know and I'll post them.
I haven't done the various leaders or artillary yet.
