this trick works for Napoleon in Italy for me but for For Liberty, i get a an access violation error on the game map screen followed by 'division by zero' errors, as well as a black map (the jump map is visible as is the side panel)

for 1848, i get that flickering issue which i had before with Napoleon previously

i will try that but also, what kind of graphics card do you use for it? Intel, Nvidia, AMD? i have win 10 64 pro and with an integrate intel card and an nvidia card so i can select one of the other. it is strange that the intel card option works fine for napoleon in italy but for for liberty and 1848 this plays up.

i tried it now, but no go

the problem i am having is not the screen flicker, but instead the "access violation error" etc etc module msvcrt.dll
if i close this then the game map is all black and sometimes a "division by zero" error repeatedly comes up

okay i think it may be working now - i selected from the game menu shortcut to run using my nvidia card and now the game map is visible and the error messages are gone - which is great,
quite odd as under windows 7 it was the integrated card that would work for these older games, but now under windows 10 its more the nvidia card that works.

only one will have access to the library for the Dll's so throws up an error, i'd hazard a guess at, there are some setups that can work with dual cards using different setups if the board and drivers support it (uniform memory access (hUMA) APU's CPU and GPU)

both work for me on steam but stand alone version of cossacks 2 won't as it's a star force game, and the protection doesn't work with windows 10, and no legal way around that, but as both games often come for sale on bundle stars etc on steam keys, get them for a $1 bundled so then both work fine if you wish to still play them, i was playing Gunship 2000, Apache 64, commanche 4 and more than a few others, then again i still play some old dos games for fun as well
