unable to buy horses/chariots etc on android version

when I click on an item to buy it says to drag item to destination but whenever I attempt to drag the item it deselects.

what am I doing wrong?

Don't drag. Just select the item you want to buy, then select the position you want to drop it into. The positions are marked by an up and down arrow pointing at each other.
