Allied Impulse #7 Con't

For the 3 Russian attacks, East of Nikolayev, the hex is taken with no losses on either side and 1/2 attackers disorganized. Near Dnepropetrovsk, all attackers are disorganized and defenders unaffected. SE of Kiev, a wonderful 16 roll takes the hex with no negative reprocussions, causing the Germans to lose 2 units while the other is shattered.

USA uses McArthur to reorganize units in Italy.

The turn does not end on a 3>2.

Axis Impulse #8

Japan and Germany take lands while Italy takes a combined.

Japan does a port attack against Espiritu Santo. It is intercepted. Air combat sees 1 attacker destroyed and othe other aborting.

Japan rails a MECH Div to Changsha and Italy rails Cavallaro HQ to Naples. Germany solidifies lines in both Russia and Italy while Japan moves slightly forward in Burma and works on its lines in China.

Germany rebases an FTR further into Italy and moves some A/C south in Russia.

Germany reorganizes some units in Russia with Rommel.

The turn ends on a 1<3.

Allies win initiative, no reroll allowed.

Allied Impulse #1

Weather is Snow in Arctic and N. Temp, Rain in Med and S. Monsoon, and Fine in N. Monsoon and S. Temperate.
USA/CW/France choose Naval Actions while China and the USSR take Lands.

CW/USA/France do a lot of transporting of units, mainly US to British Isles area, and cover convoy routes. Notably, the USA reinforces the Solomons and moves to confront Japan in the Coral Sea.

In the New Zealand Coast, both sides succeed at finding one another. Allies have 2 points of surprise and use it to increase damage to the SUB. The SUB is damaged with no effect on the escorts.

No other naval combats are successfully activated.

Allied Impulse #1 Con't

No Strategic bombing is done.

China attempts an ART GS near Nanning. Russia announces ART Strikes against Smolensk, against a hex 2 away SE of Kiev (ART and LND) and against a hex SW of Dnepropetrovsk. No intercepts are undertaken. There is no success in China while 1 unit in Smolensk is disorganized, 2 of 3 units near Kiev, and none near Dnepropetrovsk.

No rail moves are undertaken. China does not shift a lot as far as movement goes. The Communist Chinese try to infiltrate around the front in the north. Russia works to get decent winter attacks against the Germans in its territories.

Three attacks are announced in Russia. 1 is on Smolensk, another 2 hexes SE of Kiev, another 2 hexes west of Gomel and yet another SW of Dnepropetrovsk. China makes no declarations. Yaremkov provides support against Smolensk.

Ground Support is sent to Smolensk and SW of Dnepropetrovsk by the Russians. Germany adds its own A/C with escorts in support of the same hexes plus more near Kiev. Russia counters these. Over Smolensk, both Russian LND clear while a German FTR is destroyed. Near Kiev, a Russian FTR is destroyed and the German LND clears. Finally, near Dnepropetrovsk, a Russian LND is destroyed in return for a German FTR while the German FTR-Bomber is cleared.

Allied Impulse #1 Con't

Germans call an assault on Smolensk. 2 German units, an INF and an INF div are destroyed while the Russians lose a GAR and have 1/2 their units disorganized while taking the city. Russia calls a Blitz west of Gomel. A modified 23 takes the hex without loss and destroys the defending Yugoslavian unit. SE of Kiev, Russia calls a Blitz and achieves the hex with no losses and 1/2 disorganized while shattering all the German units. SW of Dnepropetovsk, the Russian again achieve the hex with the loss of 1 unit, an ENG, and all defenders shattered.

Russia rebases an air closer to the front. The USA rebases a FTR to Port Vila from a TRS and another from Greenland to Iceland while the CW rebases a FTR to the Italian mainland.

Nimitz reorganizes 3 CVs in Hawaii. Russia uses several HQ to reorganize many units used in the successful attacks this impulse.

Axis Impulse #3

Germany takes a Land, Japan takes a Naval and Italy takes a Combined action.

Japan moves various naval units all about, especially moving more units into the Coral Sea and Solomons sea zones. Italy moves a SUB out into the Bay of Biscay.

Italy activates with its SUB in the Bay of Biscay and finds the 0 Box with 9 surprise. 4 are used to choose SUB combat and 4 more reduce damage possibilities. The SUB is aborted rather than damaged as it rolls a 9, beating its armoured value of 8. A Greek merchantman is destroyed.

Japan activates in the New Zealand Coast, but the Americans find with 9 surprise. A surface combat is defaulted to and the points are used to increase damage and decrease damage by 2 columns each using 8 points. An American CA is aborted while 1 Japanese SUB is destroyed and the other damaged. In a 2nd round, the Americans again find with surprise, 7 points, and again choose to decrease damage by 1 column while increasing it by 2 with no ill effects on their side and the sinking of the Japanese SUB. Combat ends with their being no remaining Japanese SUBs in the zone.

In the Solomons Sea Zone, the Americans find with surprise. Naval air is defaulted to and the USA has 4 surprise. These are used to increase and decrease air combat values by 1 each. The air combat results in 2 American CVP bombers cleared with the Japanese CVP bomber destroyed. AAA leaves 8 factors to attack resulting in a damaged Japanese CV and the rest of the fleet aborting. One side having left, the combat in this sea zone ends.

No other naval actions are successfully activated.

Axis Impulse #3 Con't

There is no STRAT bombing. Additionally, no ground strikes are attempted.

Germany rails 2 units into Italy and another AT into Russia proper. Germany resets its defenses in Italy and pulls back into better defensive lines in Russia on all fronts with the winter weather making counter attacks virtually impossible.

Severe vulnerabilities exist on all active fronts.

Air bases are done into France (an LND), Italy (a FTR) and Russia (2 FTR). Japan rebases a FTR off a TRS onto an island beside Truk (Losap).

The Japanese HQ in Truk reorganizes a CV and 2 CAs in Truk. 3 German HQs reorganize various vulnerable units. Italy reorganizes its SUB in Bordeaux for another sorte into the Atlantic.

The images show the state of the Axis lines on active fronts in Europe at the end of the impulse.

Jan/Feb 1944 Con't

Allied Impulse #5

Weather is Sn/Sn/St/F/St/F on a roll of 6.

Russia, China and the CW take Land actions while France and the USA take combineds.

The USA moves a large fleet from Brisbane into the Coral Sea 4 box while a CV task force from Honolulu arrives in the 4 box of the Solomons Sea Area.

Searches meet with no success.

There are no Strategic bombing missions.

China attempts to GS a hex near Nanning with a FTR-bomber. Russia does a GS on Kiev. The China attack goes through without interference, but the Kiev one is intercepted. Over Kiev, the LND is cleared and FTRs abort. In the end, no enemy targets are disrupted.

The CW rails units to the border near Burma from the west coast of India. The USA does some moves in Italy. China moves a couple of units to keep them safe. Russia moves to set up some winter attacks while Communist China infiltrates further beyond Japanese lines.

For attacks, the CW invades an isolated island in the Solomons with a INF div in an automatic win. Russia announces 4 attacks on Axis units in its territory. 1 is 2 hexes SE of Vitebsk, another is on a frozen swamp 2 hexes SW of Gomel, yet another is on Kiev, and finally, a last attack is 2 hexes west of Dnepropetrovsk.

An air combat regarding ground support is fought over the hex west of Dnepropetrovsk resulting in the destruction of a German FTR-bomber.

In the attack SE of Vitebsk, the Russian blitz attack results in the hex being taken and the defenders in disarray while the Soviets lose no units and are partially disorganized. In the swamp NW of Kiev, the blitz end up with 2 destroyed Russians, a MOT and CAV div, and disorganization of all units. On Kiev itself, the Germans choose an assault leading to the Russians being disorganized with no losses and the Germans maintaining control of the city undamaged. Finally, near Dnepropetrovsk, a blitz is chosen by the attackers and the disorganized defenders are retreated with the Russians facing no losses and 50% disorganized. The attack by the CW div in the Pacific on Panape is automatic.

Russia, the USA and the CW rebase many air forward to the various fronts, notably with the USA moving an ATR to its PARA in Italy and a CW air moving forward towards Burma. A Russian ARM HQ reorgs 3 units in the center of its front with Germany.

Japan and Italy pass while Germany takes a Land.

Nothing happens until Land movement during which Germany looks at plugging holes and pulling back a bit on the front in Russia.

Some rebases are done on the Eastern front and an LND is moved into South Belgium.

Three units are reorganized in a vulnerable hex in the north.

The turn ends on a 2<4.
