Dec 6 1940

The UK 1st army are slowly dying in the mountains of Algeria. Sad to see.
After the naval victory last turn the Navy is lucky to find heavy rain grounding the Axis airforce and the navy sails safely back to Gibraltar.

End of 1940

Forces and casualties end of 1940. I am happy with the naval side but unhappy with UK landlosses. UK losses will go up as the last units surrender in Africa.

1941 will be a sad year for the UK. I consider maybe taking Norway since the Axis didnt. Maybe try to do something around Tobruk but I know that is hard we will see.

Tech

Happy with UK escorts but unhappy with Soviet land tech being slower than the air tech.

Before the guns start blazing in the east this is how it looks.

Nothing has happened so far except the Subs in the Atlantic.

May 23 1941

Again I was a bit lucky. The weather first half of May was rain so the attack done start until 23rd of May. As I wrote earlier not sure if it really is so bad to wait one May turn considering the effectiveness recovery but I guess it is a bit of personal taste.
Anyway HB have mastered the art of taking Riga on turn one. Again I feel he does more with same or less than me.
I retreat trying to stay away from the infantry. 8 corps elimninated. I disbanded 5 bad mechcorps and put 7 inf army on the build queue.

And just to do something the UK invade Norway.

I also advance a bit in Africa but there are 4 German corps there so no chance in hell to do something there.

MM has also resigned this game due to his real life commitments. I don't think there was much doubt that the Axis were going to win this game anyway. Again we played until September 41.

The BOA was a bit of a stalemate. I built more U-Boats (8) than MM did in our other game, but I don't think I sunk that many more MS. My recollection is that MM had about 200 UK MS.

The Axis conquered all of French North West Africa. Nothing much was happening in Libya. The UK did conquer Norway.

As usual, the War was won in Russia. Geographically there wasn't too much difference from our other game. The Axis captured Leningrad and were within a couple hexes of Moscow. But it was unlikely that Moscow would be captured in 1941. The difference was that the Russians sustained a lot more casualties. I forget the exacts numbers, but I think Russian force strength was less than 1700. It had also lost several Armies, some Mechanized and a Tank Corps or two. 1942 was going to be a bad year for Russia. On the plus side, MM did tell me that Russian Army National Experience was at 39%. So it went up triple what mine did.

Yes sorry I havent updated the AAR so much things going on right now.

Well I didnt resign only because of the real life issues. I was being outplayed and would have lost [:)]. Generally I like to play to the end but because of some real life stuff I felt I wanted to resign. I thought I was good at this game but HB is one level higher for sure. I can blame the fact that I havent played much since the terrain and corps changes with the Soviets and now it seems I am no good any longer [:)]. Well played and thanks for the game.

My Soviets evaporated but in the other game when I was axis they didnt in fact I would say it was my worst Barbarossa ever. Cant really explain it. We had the same Soviet setup basically and the same sized German army. As Germany I also had better weather and I got rid of two Soviet good leaders Vatutin and Rokossovsky. But somehow I failed to kill units I felt they just retreated all the time [:)]. I tried to be careful with mech moves and attacks but still the mech units were worn out pretty early. And that was that. The soviet army in 42 would have been huge and sure I could have inflicted some damage but probably not enough. So it looks like with the patch changes making it even harder in the east my hopes of conquering the Soviets is gone forever [:)].

Really like the game and every patch I want to try it again but there are so many games to play so we will see. Will probably take a bit of a break anyway from PBEM as my mind is not quite into it right now.
