Swept another 19 mines at Shortlands

B-17E and Wellington Ic night bombers at Magwe find 23 Oscars on night CAP
Attacking the airfield they score a few hits, causing 17 reported damage to the airfield.
8 Oscars are destroyed( 3 air-2-air, 3 ground, and 2 ops)
2 Zeros are destroyed on the field.
No bombers are lost but 2 P-38Es are lost to ops.

Day fighter sweeps at Magwe find not aircraft on CAP. I expect he will switch to day CAP expecting me to switch to day bombing, but I will fly night bomber missions again.

Still seeing a few Tina transports lost to ops for Xargun. He must still be transporting either troops or supplies somewhere by air.

Not a very good day for the Allies.

In one of those hunter turned hunted times.
ASW attack near Rennell Island at 110,139

Japanese Ships
SS I-26

Allied Ships
DD Bagley, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
DD Helm

SS I-26 launches 6 torpedoes at DD Bagley
Of course DD Bagley sank

Then I swept 27 more mines at Shortlands, but 25 Vals showed up and sank my YMS.

Night bombing at Magwe achieved only a few hits. Day sweeps met no opposition.
I lost a Wellington Ic and a B-17E to ops

I forgot last turn to report that all enemy units have left Changteh. I wonder where they will go now?

51 B-17Es bombed the airfield at Magwe against no opposition, which was good since my sweepers arrived after the bombers.
11 Oscars and 3 Ki-44-IIa Tojos were destroyed on the ground. No B-17Es were lost in the operation.

The airfield at Magwe is shown as having 38 damage. They will fly again tomorrow along with B-25Bs and Wellington Ics.

More bombers hit Magwe, airfield and oil
Even with severe storms at the target 97 oil are reported as damaged.
Airfield damage is listed as 85. He must have a number of engineers there repairing the damage
Still no opposition.

3 Zeros opposed my Corsair sweep of Shortlands, 2 of them did not go home.

Another day of good and bad.

The bad, one more time the hunter becomes the hunted
Sub attack near Rennell Island at 112,144

Japanese Ships
SS I-26

Allied Ships
DD McCall, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage
DD Maury

SS I-26 launches 2 torpedoes at DD McCall
Seeing only one unit in the hex Northeast of Changteh, I decided to cross the river.

Ground combat at 81,49 (near Changteh)

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 105434 troops, 727 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3780

Defending force 12451 troops, 104 guns, 42 vehicles, Assault Value = 408

Allied adjusted assault: 3269

Japanese adjusted defense: 107

Allied assault odds: 30 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), op mode(-), experience(-), supply(-)
Attacker: shock(+)

Japanese ground losses:
4572 casualties reported
Squads: 279 destroyed, 118 disabled
Non Combat: 128 destroyed, 96 disabled
Engineers: 26 destroyed, 10 disabled
Guns lost 39 (23 destroyed, 16 disabled)
Vehicles lost 23 (6 destroyed, 17 disabled)
Units retreated 3

Allied ground losses:
2616 casualties reported
Squads: 13 destroyed, 169 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 13 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 21 disabled
Guns lost 15 (1 destroyed, 14 disabled)

9th War Area
20th Group Army
30th Group Army
7th Artillery Regiment

Defending units:
34th/A Division
34th/B Division
34th/C Division
It seems that most of the enemy units that were in Changteh are now in Ichang. Last turn there was a movement
arrow at Ichang pointed to the East, this turn there is no movement arrow.

Another day and more streams of bombers hit Magwe.
They were not as successful today as they have been.
Oil still shows 218 damaged and the airfield at 77 damage.

Another day of bombing Magwe
Oil shows 248 damaged and airfield at 100.

Wellingtons and B-25Cs hit the LCUs and destroyed and disabled a number of devices.
Since they hit mostly the 3 identified AA units there, I hope some of the guns were AA guns.
The CR shows 10 guns destroyed and 14 disabled.

One of those quirks of the game that I find irritating is that air units tasked with attacking ground units will follow
that a unit that moves. It is something that can be exploited, but I have no idea that Xargun did that. My Wellington
bombers followed a unit that railroaded from Magwe to Toungoo. Of course I did not have fighter sweeps to Toungoo
and I lost 11 good Wellington aircraft. The unit that moved was a BF and since he can not fly aircraft from Magwe it
does make sense for him to move it. I just hate having to check target assignments every turn.

Oil at Magwe is at 275 damaged and the airfield is at 68 damaged

I did sink a PB that was probably bringing supplies to Shortlands.
Another sub spotted this ship in h ex 108,129 just before this but did not attack.
Sub attack near Torokina at 109,130

I only sent my B-17Es to bomb the oil at Magwe. All other bombers
are stood down repairing airframes and rebuilding morale
Oil is showing 283 damaged.

A New Jersey BB centered Naval Bombardment hit Shortlands for good results.
I have sent minesweeper TFs for a few turns and no minefield has been detected.
Night Naval bombardment of Shortlands at 109,131

64 B-25Bs bombed the troops at Shortlands, not doing much. Hopefully they helped burn supply and added some disruption.

Here is a small screenshot to show an interesting position in China.
Xargun knows the stack of units I have NE of Changteh is 3500+ Assault Strength.
He has 29 units in Ichang, they used to have a movement arrow to the East.
I have a USAAF Recon unit in Chungking that is flying recon over Ichang. If he moves
those units I will know and can then move my units into Ichang, so his units are still just sitting there.
I think he might have been moving them to try and assault into Sian, I seem to have forestalled that for now.

Even severe storms at Magwe did not limit the effectiveness of my bombers this turn.
Oil is showing 297 damaged, I will now switch back to the airfield and troops.

More Naval Bombardments of Shortlands. Amphibious TF loaded and will land troops tomorrow.
The 1st Marine Division will start the invasion.
Further forces are at Munda and will be landed as the APAs are available after transporting the Marines.

The 3rd USMC Parachute Bn will be dropped at Torokina to block retreat into that base.
