Burma:
Massive fighter sweeps at Rangoon. Enemy Corsair IIs, P-47D2s and P-47D25s sweep the skies over Rangoon. My layered cap did not do as well as I would have liked. I believe the issue is my pilot's defensive skills are only around 50-55 when they need to be in the 70s. This puts my pilots at a skill disadvantage compared to Nomad's pilots. I am working on fixing this, but it takes 6 months or so for the new pilots to train up.
The casualties are high - 86 Franks lost, 79 to A2A. Of the 86 lost, I only lost 27 pilots, but 30 more are wounded. I know a good chunk of the casualties were low skilled pilots but still a big loss. Intel says the enemy lost 27 P-47s, 23 to A2A and 6 Corsairs, 5 to A2A.
My daytime raid on Ramree port cost 1 Judy, but landed 800kg bombs on CL Birmingham and AO Olwen, leaving them both on fire.
The British horde attacked again at Taung Gyi forcing my troops to retreat and capturing the base.
Ground combat at Taung Gyi (59,48)

Well a lot has happened since my last post - but overall not much is going on.
Burma has completely fallen to the British / Chinese / Indian troops and the British horde is marching on Moulmein with the bulk of them in the jungle 1 hex to the east of Moulmein - guess he didn't like the idea of a river crossing into my multiple tank divisions at Moulmein so he is going around. I am pulling out of Moulmein as its really not defensable and I don't want to lose the troops currently defending it.
Last turn I lost a lot of Helens due to a misclick and my second sweep not going in until after the Helens all died to cap over Rangoon. My misclick assigned Franks to fly LR CAP over Moulmein instead of Rangoon. I believe I lost like 70 helens in that screw up. I have nearly 400 replacements in the pool, but it will take several weeks to get those air groups back to full strength.
The South Pacific and SRA is still the same. The allies are 1 hex away from Sorong - having took Sansapor a few turns ago but nothing else is going on. The Allied DeathStar is at Hollandia - for what purpose I am not sure. I think he is waiting for troops and transports for his push to either Sorong or Woleai. He could be gunning for Babeldaob, but the wise move would be to take Sorong first.
In chatting with Nomad he believes I have 17 CVs in the field and he is still under the impression I have move deck space than he does. While that might be true, his pilots are better than mine and his planes are at worst equal to mine if not better. My Carriers are all flying Sams, Jills and Judies - all the best models.
Not sure if Nomad has realized yet, but I have kamakazes. The whole point of leaving Batan Island in the hands of the allies has paid off as I now get them. I have not converted any air groups but am stockpiling the ability - I have never had kamakazes before and wasn't sure if the 1 air group per turn stockpiled or not, but it seems it does.
My next post will be an economy update on where the Empire stands after 2+ years of war.

January 1944 - Empire Economy Update
I feel I am in a good position Economically even though I cannot stand up to the allies in a straight up fight at this point.
Currently Japan is stockpiled with the following:
HI Points: 1,685,090 (roughly 114 days production)
Arm Points: 422,028
Nav Ship: 2,548
MP: 1,729,983
Veh Points: 43,795
Mer Ship: 2,662
Resources: 7,311,937 (roughly 85 days production)
Oil: 2,847,157 (roughly 406 days production)
Fuel: 4,669,962 (roughly 373 days production)
Empire wide I have the following resources:
Supply: 10,421,781
Resources: 18,239,794
Oil: 3,970,227 (About 700k at Hong Kong)
Fuel: 11,426,610 (I have roughly 3 Million fuel at Singapore and another Million at Hong Kong)
I have 6 CVLs being accelerated and 1 CV - that will be all the carriers I will build - the rest would arrive in 45 and simply be easy points for Nomad. The 7 carriers will all arrive within the next 30 days. These new additions will bring my carrier fleet to 11 CVs, 28 CVLs and 5 CVEs. Currently many of the CVLs are finishing up their upgrades - they are arriving with no upgrades finished. And I have 2 CVs in the body shop repairing damage from the last time I used them. Between these and the half dozen BBs I still have, I am hoping I can put up a decent fight yet.
I am currently producing the following airframes: Frank, Sam, Peggy, Irving, Judy, Jill, Helen, Randy, Dinah and Emily.
I have 1700+ Franks in stockpile, along with 1200 Sams, 200 Peggy, 500 Judy, 400 Jill, 300 Helen.
I only have 3 airframes still being researched: B1K5-J George (Current ETA 12/44), J7W1 Shinden (Current ETA 3/44) and Ki-201 Karyu (Current ETA 12/44).
I plan on using Peggy and Jills as Kamikazes. All of my CVLs have both air groups expanded to 48 and while the fighters are filled up and put back on the CVL the Jills have simply been training. I hope to unleash a huge wave of kamikazes on Nomad while he comes for either the Marianas or Luzon. If I can smash one large invasion fleet I will set him back months.

Thailand / Burma:
Finally the storms in this area let up a bit allowing my night strikes to actually launch. A bunch of Helens strayed but we made a few runs on the port and light industry at Rangoon. My Judys didn't hit anything in port, but the Helens a couple LI hits.
Then come the afternoon air phase the big air show started !! Five squadrons of RN P-47D25 Thunderbolts came sweeping into the skies over Bangkok and ran into a few IJA and IJN fighters. Six fighter air groups were on CAP - approximately 200 fighters (if they were all in the sky at once) at varying altitudes greeted the British pilots with open hostility. If the Intelligence report is to be believed I lost a total of 77 fighters (ops and A2A) in exchange for 62 P-47s. In my mind that was a good trade. Franks, Sams, Zeros and Tojos were in the mix as well as a variety of pilot experience.
Of the 56 Thunderbolts reportedly shot down in A2A majority of those pilots should be killed or captured. Should be a decent hit to his P-47s. He can probably replace them all right away, but it will take a couple days to repair them all. Same for me.
With his eyes set on Bangkok, I have moved all non-fighters from the level 9 airbase allowing the 640 AV Support there to tend to fighters only.
At the end of the turn some British troops crossed the river and shock attacked into Moulmein mauling the Thai Regiment that was left defending the base. All other units, including the 2 tank divisions have successfully fled to the east heading for Rahaeng.

SRA:
I put out a pair of DDs as bait for a CAP trap and it sort of works. B-25s come in to attack in two waves, but are very low - I am guessing 100ft. The first wave gets by my CAP and lands hits on both DDs - one is severely damage with 4 bomb hits - the other just takes some gunfire.
But the second wave of B-25s gets caught by my CAP and wiped out.

I finally got some fighters over to southern china and did some sweeping and LR CAP of my own over my troops near Kwangchowan that have been taking a beating from allied bombers. I sent a resupply TF to Dobo with some supplies and had 70ish Tojos flying cap over the base when the US bombers came to visit. The bombers got all 3 xAKs and sunk them, but they paid a heavy bill in lost planes and pilots.
In the air this past turn we had a good day between the action in China and in the SRA. The Intelligence screen lists the following aircraft lost:
24 B-25D1s (23 A2A, 1 Ops), 14 P-38Gs (11 A2A, 3 Ops), 9 F4U-1s (7 A2A, 2 Ops), 6 P-38Es (5 A2A, 1 Ops), 4 B-25Bs (4 A2A), 2 B-26s (2 A2A), 2 A-20s (1 A2A, 1 Flak)
14 Tojo (10 A2A, 4 Ops), 6 Franks (4 A2A, 2 Ops), 5 A6M2 (4 A2A, 1 Ops). Also I only had 2 Pilots KIA so despite losing 25 fighters I only lost 2 Pilots - good deal in my book.

I finally got some fighters over to southern china and did some sweeping and LR CAP of my own over my troops near Kwangchowan that have been taking a beating from allied bombers. The sweeps caught no one there, but the LR CAP did manage to kill some escorts and bombers. Not enough to lessen the bomb damage this turn, but it may be enough for him to reconsider.
Truk:
Another day of enemy sweeps and bombing at Truk.
