Japanese upgrade flow chart

Post by dr.hal »

A few years ago I remember seeing a flow chart that traced the various types of Japanese aircraft along their development lines (or path). It showed which upgrade was part of the production flow and which where not. Does anyone have access to this or can point me in the right direction? I've tried google search and the forum's search to no avail. Also if anyone can point to a thread that helps a Japanese player figure out aircraft upgrades and which types of aircraft to keep or not keep, which factories to switch and why, that would be great too (I know it's depends in large part on a player's preference, but some guidelines would be of interest!). Thanks in advance.

A few months ago I started playing around with a chart for Scenario 1 PDU off.

This line diagram summarises the Scenario 1 IJAAF Fighter air unit PDU off upgrades.
It doesn’t show all the linkages, but enough to visualise what aircraft need to be built for units to be able to upgrade.
Yellow borders show last or no upgrades from that model, so they could potentially be built for the duration of the war to keep some units at full strength.
Green connector lines show the factories that can upgrade for free along the research path, which for fighters are limited to Oscar, Tojo, Tony and Frank production lines.

In PDU Off, all of the Oscar, Tojo and Tony production lines need to be built. Some units retain those aircraft with no change of model, while other units shift onto the Frank production line.
Several Oscar units end at Oscar-IIIa with a limited number allowed to upgrade to Oscar-IV.
Several Oscar and Tojo units upgrade to Frank A or B, then onto Frank R.
Some acceleration of Frank-A could get them onto the map quite early (eg: late 1943) through a few Oscar IIa and IIb units.
Ki-61 Tony upgrades progress through Ki-100s to Ki-94.

The 6x FB/NF units that lead into the Ki-102a and Ki-93-Ia aircraft may be best left as FB/NF, especially the NF as there are so few units that can fly NF.

This is my summary from Scenario 1 for the factory upgrades that can be done for free.
Anything not on this list resets the factories to zero.
