Black screen (and tried all the recommended solutions)

Post by hsannife »

First of all, Happy New Year to everyone!

I bought these game a few months ago and I have played without any problem since today. Now every time I launhch the game I get a black screen and I guess, problems with the resolution. I hav tried all the solutions that I met in this forum (and also in the Steam forum, I have Steam version of the game), but the problem is not solved yet.

I attached my dxdiag file and the last game log. The game tries to find the resolution but it fails. I have tried the OpenGL solution, also I have checked the disable display scaling on high DPI settings option, I run the game and Steam as admin, I have changed the Preferred Graphics Processor to High Performance NVIDIA Processor, but nothing of these things have worked for me.

Could you help me please?

Thanks!

Hector

Hector,

I am sorry for the delay in responding - I am afraid that I was away from my computer on New Year's.

I have made a suggestion to your post on Steam, but I'll make it here again. Please try to set your monitor to a refresh rate of 60 Hz and then try to run the game. If your hardware cannot handle that setting, please let me know and we'll go from there. The resolution of 1920 x 1080 itself should be fine. The game is having trouble with the refresh rate and doesn't seem to be able to change it on its own.

Dear mercenarius,

No problem, yesterday was New Year's day it is normal to be away from the computer these days.

I will try to explain what I have done.

I am trying to launch the game in my laptop, Lenovo Legion 5. This laptop has an integrated card and a NVDIA GeForce RTX 3060. It is difficult to change refresh rate in this laptop model due to Lenovo has removed this option. I managed to change the refresh rate of the integrated card to 60 Hz but when I launch the game using this card, it does not work. I have tried to change the refresh rate of the 3060 card, but it says that the game is not compatible with optimization. So i change the global configuration of this card selecting the low latency mode in the NDVIA control panel, but, again, the black screen appears and the game closes to desktop.

I don't know if I am doing the right things to change the refresh rate of my screen laptop but I didn't expect that it was so difficult to do it. I don't understand why the game has worked these days perfectly until yesterday....

I will keep trying with the refresh rate, let's see if I find any solution.... If you have any recommendation about how to configure it, it would be great!

Thnak you very much for you help, I really appreciate it!

Best regards,

Hector

Hi Hector,

Thanks for the thoughtful reply, and for your patience. I am not sure why the game isn't working any more. Perhaps some update to the OS or drivers has upset things.

I have decided to edit my previous post because it probably wasn't very accurate. Sorry about that!

The best thing to do is to contact support at Matrix. There is a link under the Help button above. They can do more than I can do to try to figure out what is gone wrong with your machine. The game *should* be able to fall back on the initial display settings and I am not sure why that isn't working.

Again, I am sorry that you are not able to enjoy the game right now. And it comes at an inconvenient time for you because of the holidays.

Best,

James

Dear mercenarius,

I managed to get the 60Hz for my monitor laptop at last! I changed the default graphic card for desktop so now it is using the NVIDIA card and, then, throught the nvidia control panel application I could change the refresh rate to the desired value. Then, I launched the game and it worked!

Again, I really appreciate your help with this issue. The refresh rate was the key to solve my problem. I will post it also in Steam, so anybody who finds a similar problem could get the solution to it.

Best regards!!

there is more issues with dual chip laptops than any other issue put together, so yes glad your sorted.

having a dedicated GPU is always best, but when you have both a CPU which has a bolted on GPU on the CPU die and a dedi GPU, it's hard for windows and games to know which one to use, so making one the default or getting both to run at the same settings or disabling one or alter the onboard one does help but board makers sometimes lock this so you can't as you have found out.

rule of thumb, but again doesn't work with all laptops is make the Dedi one the default one for the given game, but only way is to manually add it to each and every game, then that forces it to use the better and quicker device all the time.

Glad to hear that you got it working, Hector! And thanks for sharing your experience with us to help others who might encounter similar issues.

What Zakblood said is right on the money; laptops can be hard to get working just right.
