TOAW III Scenario Catalogue?

Post by CaptainKoloth »

Hello everyone:

I was looking to get into some TOAW III scenarios to expand my horizons a bit and I've been trying to get some info on which ones have a PO in particular as I tend to play SP. I've seen some references to Shunwick's TOAW III Catalogue which seemed to have a lot of useful info, but the Gamesquad link to it no longer works. Does anyone have a version of this file?

I am currently finishing up the full TOAW scenario catalog.
It already contains 1168 scenarios and modifications.
It will be fully completed within the next week.

Complete TOAW Scenario Catalog

In the second column of the catalog there are links to download these scenarios from the archive I created.

TOAW scenarios archive

80% of the work is already done (All that remains is to add scenarios for letters T-Z to the archive)

Thanks a lot for your work! Is the scenario archive done or it's still not ready yet?

Yes, I have finished creating the catalog and archive!

There are still a few scenarios left, mostly mods, which I have not been able to find yet (they are marked in red in the catalog).

I also managed to find accounts (on the Matrixgames or Gamesquad forums) of many of the scenario authors.
I also added links to scenario descriptions from the old, defunct Rugged Defense forum in the web archive (or offline saves of these pages if they were not in the web archive).

The catalog is open for editing by anyone - that is, you can filter and sort from A to Z any of the parameters in the table. This is very convenient and helps both to find errors, duplicate scripts, and to find scripts that are interesting to you personally.

ps: Now I also want to sort out, catalog and post my archive of many DB files of equipment and graphic mods for TOAW. If anyone wants to help with this, I would be very grateful.

Fantastic! Unfortunate that some scenarios and mods are still not yet found, and are most likely lost forever, unless somebody has them and could share the files. Speaking, what do all those colors in the catalogue stand for exactly?

Andy, about the scenario archive. Operation Avenging Sword (mod) v1.3 (for TOAW4) and Sicily 43 folders are completely empty. Is it supposed to be like that or you just forgot to add the files? On a side note, the last folder is named incorrectly, should be "U,V,W,X,Y,Z", not "U,W,X,Z".

Thank you, I have corrected all the errors you noticed.

The red lines are the scripts I haven't found. And if individual cells are marked in red, it means there are some doubts or differences in their meaning.

I marked in yellow those cells of the main parameters of the scenarios that I have not yet filled in. For ease of finding them.

My pleasure!

I see! And what do purple, orange, lighter and darker shades of green mean?

Just noticed another empty folder! Guadalcanal 1942-43 (by Chris Jackson)!

I've noticed a couple of scenarios which have been updated (with revision number) since your source material was published. As I understand it, I can make revision updates to your work?
Also, does the web catalog require a user account and login?

In dark green I have highlighted scenarios with an abstract place of action and time of action.I have highlighted in bright green the scenarios that have only been announced here on the forum, but have not yet been published.
The other colors are purely technical, for the convenience of filling in and I have removed them.

It seems that this scenario does not exist and I deleted it. The name Chris Jackson was only listed in the description of the Guadalcanal scenario on the Rugged Defense website, but the scenario itself is GUADALCANAL 1942-43 (Jeff Meriam mod) v1.4.

I can allow editing of the archive, but it would probably be better if you posted the links or the scenario themselves here. Then they could be compared and it would be possible to decide for sure whether the archive needs to be corrected, since there is a lot of confusion with both the names and the versions of the scenario.

Just my personal opinion, but allowing anyone to edit the archive freely carries the risk of it getting vandalized. Or you meant to say "catalogue"? And yeah, I know that the catalogue is under that risk, too, but the risk of the scenario archive being vandalized is more serious.

And yeah, I agree with Andy. It's better to provide links to show which scenarios got updated exactly, so there wouldn't be any need to skim through the whole catalogue just to find the scenarios in question.

I have a bunch of scenarios I have not yet released (30 or so) all updated to TOAW 4, tweaked unit counters, new scenarios, etc. I just need to set some time to go through them all again and then post them somewhere. I also use a custom set of art mods I culled together from several different sources and then on top of that add need unit icons and what not.

When you do post your updates, please be sure to include a unique version number in the scenario title. Maybe something like "Name vZ1.sce"

Generally the originals were something like this:

2nd Battle of Kharkov 1942.sce
or
Aachen 1944.sce

I then after modification rename them like this:
2nd Battle of Kharkov 1942 v2.0.sce
Aachen 1944 v3.0.sce

I further have updated all the documentation and briefings using a standard I developed over the years that I like, like so:

Image

For each modification I have done I have also updated the scenario to include and use the newer features in TOAW 4, and fixed "broken" supply issues with TOAW III conversion's to TOAW IV. I have also "reskinned" (or recolored) each scenario as well.

For example.

2nd Battle of Kharkov 1942 v2.0 (subtle changes here with the graphics):

Image

This one has a lot more graphical changes.

Image

One of my favorites is just the board wargame counter mod I use and the custom colors I used to "reskin"/recolor Bob Cross's Campaign for North Africa series to be more inline and match the board wargame from SPI:

Image

Hopefully I can share these if folks are interested in them. All the mods and updates I do are to make TOAW IV look more like my beloved board wargames from yesteryear.

That last one was a bit hard to see due to the forums ways of screwing up graphics.

Here is better screenshot maybe...

Still one of my favorites is the Italian Campaign 1943-45.

But of course! If you have any scenarios and mods that you would like to share, please do! It's always nice to see more scenarios being made for TOAW, cause it not only increases the variety, but also helps keeping the community alive!

I have between 25 and 60 converted, modified and updated TOAW IV scenarios. I just need to set the time to find all the data points and make them available someplace.

Send me your email in Private messages and I will add you to the scenario archive editors in Mega. and then you will be able to immediately upload your updated scenario there.
