Doubt about "routed".

Post by voroshilov17 »

Hello everyone,
I have been checking the manual and the forum and I did not find the answer for my doubt about “Routed” concept.

First, let me explain the situation I have checked on “Kharkov 42” scenario as “soviet forces”.
In the first turn I only have moved my units (no combats) only moved them. Then, in the german turn, they have attacked many of my units, one of them, my “45 Tk brigade”.
As a result, my brigade loss the battle (first photo, with combat chart) and got “routed” with red bar.
Then, when my turn came, that unit stopped “routing” status and putted as “reorganizing”. (second photo).

So here are my main dubts
1- What phenomenom of the real war does exactly “routed” means and represents? According to the manual, it’s similar to “mobile”. Why then use the concept “routed” instead of “mobile”? Why routed has de red bar on the counter and “mobile” no? The red bar seems to me like it pretends to tell something really wrong is happening…not just a simply and inocent “routing” unit.
2- “Routed” is a status that ONLY can happen during the enemy turn? As long as we can see in those photos, during the enemy turn my units gets “routed” and at the moment my turn starts, it gets “reorganized”. So it seems that this status can only happen during enemy turns.
3-The principles to get a unit “reorganizing” are heavy combat losses. So, which are the principles to get a unit “routed”? Apparently are the same…right? My unit got a heavy loss in the battle and got “routed”.
4-According to dubt nº3. If “routed” result is also because heavy combat losses, why it appears “routed” and not “reorganizing”?

Thanks a lot!

routed (past tense) · routed (past participle)
defeat and cause to retreat in disorder.

They have retreated in disorder and will attempt to reorganize in your turn. Maybe they will get reorganized by the next turn maybe not. If they get attacked again while routing it could very well mean the end for them. They are very vulnerable.

Routed is similar to mobile because they get no defensive benefits from thier deployed state other than what they receive from terrain. In other words no D, E or F. It is even worse than mobile because now they can get destroyed much easier.

Maybe someone else can explain it better.

That was pretty good Jack. It was like a suspense story, I couldn't wait to read what happens next !! Some of it may make it's way into the community manual. Thanks!

When a unit is "routed", it means the soldiers are fleeing the battlefield because they have been badly defeated.

Cheers

I was in a lot of pain at the time due to my back injury a few years ago so had to leave the computer. I can't spend a lot of time doing things while I'm sitting at my desk. I was hoping someone would explain the new turn order rules. So he would know that mid turn everything is reset. So it would be pointless to have attackers rout since they would be reoranizing before they could be attacked when using the new turn order rules regardless of if they were player one or player two. But you go on and help him out. You know much more about it than I do. Hope you didn't fall asleep reading this.

Everything mentioned above is true, but it should be noted that vulnerability is not necessarily as dire as suggested. As shown in the graphic the enemy’s knowledge of unit status is not absolute. The enemy may guess that a unit is wounded, but without knowing for sure other targets may instead be selected. This illustrates the PBM game, I have no idea what the PO cheat features enables the PO to see.
