The hexart.dat file is 305k indeed.
The full mod in compressed .rar, 33.4Mb.

Make sure you download the whole file correctly, click the link in the first post, then you should find a button "download" on the right.
Then paste and extract the file in the main installfolder, the same folder that contains "WarInTheWest.exe", overwrite all.
Then start a new game, and this should do it.

If that does not work, see if the mod loads in the editor.
To do this.
Start the game, then in the main menu click "editor".
A new window opens up, click "load generic data" on the bottom.
After you did that the button "go to the map" appears.
When you click this you should see the map, did the mod load correctly this way ?

OK, I'm getting there. I installed all the files and if I start a new game that came from Matrix Games then it works. But if I start a scenario that is modified from the original scenarios, I don't get the full detail. Is there a way to make that happen that you know of?

I think I figured it out, so if you get asked this in the future then you, too, will have the answer.

If the modified scenario has "Lock Generic Data" set to Yes, then you need to do the following steps:

1. Change the Scenario Name to something new and save scenario, just to be safe
2. Export ALL CSV files
3. Change Lock Generic File to No
4. Resave scenario
5. Exit editor, then re-enter editor
6. Load scenario
7. Change Lock Generic File to Yes
8. Import ALL CSV files (that you just saved)
9. Resave scenario

Thanks for helping me through this. Looking forward to starting a new game with the great art, though that may not be for a few months as I'm on Turn 20 of a 1943-45 AAHQ scenario.
