Gary Grigsby’s Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich - Update v1.06.66

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

Gary Grigsby’s Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich - Update v1.06.66

Post by MaximKI »

Hello everyone,

Today we are glad to announce a new update for the game. You can download it from the 'File Downloads" section of your registered game in your My Page tab on the Matrix website or by clicking this link: HERE

Here is the changelog:

v1.06.66– February 9, 2023
Note: due to OOB changes and some data updates required for enhanced night-fighting features you will need to restart your games to experience these changes. Your previous saved games may still work (though without seeing the data updates) but it is now highly recommended that you start a new scenario or campaign after installing version 1.06.66.

Changes & Fixes:
• Reworked the detection and electronic countermeasure (ECM) features for night raids and interceptions. Several coding issues were fixed that otherwise voided out a fair amount of data content related to detection and ECM. The Axis player will now notice his abilities to effectively intercept Bomber Command night raids getting more difficult as time progresses. Data changes were made to get radio jamming to work properly but otherwise only minor data changes were necessary to make the game work as intended. We included an “ELECTRONIC WARFARE GUIDE” in the manuals section to help players familiarize themselves with the various equipment and aspects of night fighting in WW2. Also, jammed radar devices on Axis aircraft will show red or yellow on the flight display, and the display will also show the %jammed for communications radio (if >0%).
• Improved weapons display of radar and jamming systems info.
• “Piperack” radar jamming now fitted into B17 and B24 RCM units at a historical rate instead of instantly when those groups appear. Allied ELINT activities can accelerate the introduction of piperack and other devices.
• Fixed a bug in BTR where the radio activity for England did not include air units based in Eastern France and Germany, greatly impacting Axis readiness times in the late game.
• Various minor UI improvements including display of navigational devices during Intruder lead flight selection, and moved the intruder “multiple planes” toggle onto the lower menu screen for easier access during mission planning.
• When selecting primary and secondary targets using “List Targets” during raid planning, selecting a target on the map will now cause the list below to center and highlight on the selected target for easy selection.
• During Replay, mouse-over will now display aircraft type and group instead of just the ambiguous “Raid #”.
• Adjusted Lancaster II climb and max ceiling and allowed auto-upgrade to HS2 nav radar. Other Allied BTR OOB changes as listed in the “Manuals” folder.
• Fixed other issues with aircraft data that were causing equipment display issues on some aircraft.
• Fixed some minor issues with the Allied AI selection of Pathfinder lead groups in BTR.
• Made some improvements to Allied AI in the BtR’s.
• Fixed a bug where the AI was not allocating close escorts to bombing raids, only high escorts.
• Made some improvements to Axis AI in the BoB’s
• There is now a chance that a Sweep on an un-reconned airbase will execute the attack on the base if the group leader passes an experience task check.
• Attacking AI may now combine recon flights with bomber flights to the same target during the same day.
• Removed Axis Nightfighter groups from scenarios where only Allied day bombing occurs. Does not impact AS calculation.
• Fixed a bug from an earlier version that impacted the ability for some night bombers to navigate to the target properly, which was causing reduced accuracy.
• Adjusted play balance in some Nachtjagd scenarios.

I appreciate it, but I couldn't have done it without the dedicated team of beta testers and data support that we have.

Thank you, everyone!!!

I did not mean to slight anyone ... simply I and Richard have known one another for years as betas on another game series.

Here is something funny. My records show I last played EDBTR this past Summer, and yet, I barely have a clue as what do do.

DON'T GET OLD!!!

Now, I am playing WITE-2 at the moment which certainly is no arcade game. I can still handle complex games, but if I stop longer than about 3 weeks, things begin to fade fast.

It's really sad. Sometimes (as I am still sheltering, since I cannot afford to get COVID) just go for a drive, not because I need to buy anything, but just to maintain my driving skill. Fortunately, GG did not design my car! :D

Sigh ...

Richard,

I was looking, for the first time, last night, the missions that the AI generator will do for you. Previously, I had done my own mission planning, but it is very tedious.

Well, any way, I was thinking wouldn't it be cool if you could define a ChatGPT UI to develop the air plan for the day? I know you are still working on learning interfacing assembly routines and the C++ calling stack, but imagine how cool it would be to have "real" AI in EDBTR?

You, 2by3, Matrix would have jumped ahead of the entire gaming industry. Of course, they would probably send out someone from DARPA or The Pentagon to classify what you have done. And we the players would never get to use it! :D

Hello Axis and Allies! Really LOVE this game since it have been launched first. Thanks a lot to the team for keeping it alive with updates. Since the last two updates the axis seems to get a little bit "peacy". A few hundred of axis fighters just escorting enemy bombers and night bombers only getting damage and wont be shot down. I will take a break hoping for a fix and wish all of you a nice weekend.

TheFlak, do you mean the Axis are more hesitant to engage the bomber stream and escorts?

I've noticed this as well, but I always felt the game was too bloody before and although I didn't purposely make pursuit fighters less aggressive, I thought the results of the bit of cleaning up of the attack code that I did made it feel more realistic. Note that if your doctrine is set to "bounce..." then the interceptors have a lot more maneuvering to do to get into position to fire. If you want more blood, try "direct..." tactics and see what happens.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your response! I will try that direct option. I thought it was about the tactic. Bounce for getting behind and direct for front attack. I have read a lot of books about air war over europe and these tactics were described there, even from german pilots.

Youre right, sometimes it seems very bloody and even not realistic when hundred of bombers have been shot down in one day attack.

Thank you again and maybe you could take a little hand on night attack relation between damage and shot down....only a little bit maybe. The english bombers seems to have been more vulnerable then the US.

Love this game and get it on disc at it appears first. Buying it again as Eagle Day + BTR Edition. A great
job from you to still giving us updates.

Have a nice day!

Best

Well seeing how the most recent update was just released 3 months ago, I doubt you'll see one any time in the near future.

Actually... we are testing an installer now for 1.06.70. This fixes the premature secondary target bombing bug, cleans up some more UI stuff, and made a significant improvement/tweak to the Allied AI in 1943 to keep up the industry bombing so the Axis can have a better challenge in the 1943 campaign. No data changes so your saved games from 1.06.66 should be fine.
