Fulda - a second try

Post by MikeJ19 »

Okay, I came close the last time. I want to try and do better.

My analysis of the Terrain and Soviet force and options are already posted in the Fulda thread - so I will not add them here.

I will start with a reminder of what I have and then three new options.

My initial thoughts (one change in bold)

For once, I have most of my forces right from the start. Very nice.

I have lots of Artillery. Of course, it will not be enough.

Based on the locations of the VPs, I’m likely going to have to defend forward. Losing that first belt of VPs would make victory difficult to achieve. Or I have to be ready/able to counterattack later to retake terrain and VP locations. Tried defending back a little and counter attacking, it did not work.

I would like to strip the Soviets of:
HQs – to make it harder for them to control their troops,
AD units – to give my aviation and air support freer reign, and
Artillery – to lessen their fire power.

I have lots of improved locations that I can use to build my defense line.

I need a reserve – not evident what unit is best for that.

I suspect that this scenario might start slower than most – if my orders are correct. However, I need to make sure that I’m ready in case they come right away.

Option 1

The boundaries are similar to my first go around, but the Armd Bn has an attachment of a ACR Coy and a detachment of a Armd Coy.

Option 2

Trying to draw the enemy to the NW. Not sure that this will work. The nice thing here is the amount of troops in the forest on the East. 1-11 ACR would likely be facing the brunt of the Soviet attack

Option 3

This is very similar to Option 1, except that the two units are flipped. 1-11 on the right and the Armd Bn on the left.

I like this one, as it gives me more strength on the right.

I’m going with Option 3. It is similar to Option 3, but I like the 1-11 ACR being in the woods. I think the larger size and variety of vehicles will be a good fit.

I want to try to use the ICM from my Artillery when the Soviet tanks are stuck in the obstacle belt. The Mines will be used to either, plug a Soviet push or to replenish the obstacle belt after one Soviet group gets through – trying to separate the echelons and maybe even just the Bns. The MLRS should be very potent against Soviet tanks stuck in the obstacle belt

It is a long time until my AH show up, so I will not plan for them yet. They will be used to shore up my defence, exploit a Soviet hole and attack their depth or to add to the defence to take out Soviet units in an engagement area.

If the Soviets do lead with recce, I want to strip in out quickly and then potentially, move my defence a little.

Taking out Soviet HQ and AD systems will also be important.

I think this gives me good coverage of the routes and gaps across the 1-11’s area.

I like the mix of vehicles and weapons in this area.

Seer,

Thanks, I think I need it.

Here is the 1-68 deployment:

Not much room between the companies here.

I have given the Bn and TF HQs move orders so that they move around a little in case that they are identified by the Soviets.

fluidwill,

Thanks for the prompt. I was away for the weekend. I'm also finding it hard to re-fight a battle.

However, I do want to finish this one!

If Flashpoint has taught me anything it's that doing nothing is sometimes the right thing to do. Very Zen.

That and that the answer to most of lifes problems is an off board MLRS with a plentiful supply of Improved Munitions.

You got this [:)]
