Subsahara Mod

Post by Schlonz »

Hi all,

I'm currently working on a mod to include South Africa, colonial Portugal, Rhodesia, Uganda (ID14, Pro-West) as well as Tanzania and Angola/FAPLA (ID28, Pro-East).
So far I have a bunch of completely new platoons, implemented platoons from other OOBs (CSME and CSVN) and lots of new formations, sometimes up to Brigade level.
Jungle will be available in (classic) 3D mode as well as seperate mini-mods with bases and icons for the above mentioned nations.

Nevertheless it's still a WIP and needs a lot of fine tuning, playtests and maybe a scenario or two.
I'm also waiting for version 2.40 to be released to see if I need to make any adjustments
(Platoon/Unit ID's, etc.) and to possibly benefit from the new automated LUA scripting.

The OOBs are far from being complete (and most likely will never be), at times focused on a certain event,
and won't cover the complete timeline, but sufficient to create some decent scenarios.
Detailed information about OOBs down to company level mostly range from non-existent to vague,
sometimes different, sometimes contradictory.

When the mod is in a reasonably playable state (spring '25 ?) it'll be available for download....stay tuned.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!!

This is amazing!!

FYI, there are some nations that are planned, so if you wanted to use those nations that would make the mod seamless!

37 Uganda

46 Portugal

61 Tanzania

73 Angola

76 Rhodesia

78 South Africa

Hi Jason,

it would make perfect sense to create those nations in the correspondig pre-planned nation slots, although it would require hours of work for "re-ID-ing" all the units.
Unfortunately I haven't found a modifiable file to activate them. I guess it's coded in the game engine, isn't it?

Good day!

Yes, it is hard coded into the game, but Petri (Crossroads) might be able to whip up some EXE's for you if you want to change the ID's.

Your call!

This is awesome either way!

Good evening!

Despite the initial effort to change the unit IDs, it would be easier to handle with the dedicated nation IDs...especially in the long run.
Of course the .EXE file(s) would then have to be included with the mod.

Hello Schlonz, just checking: this is how we have those nations in Cold War Alpha release. You want to have Uganda as Side A as well?

Cold War:
XAxisSide, // XUgandaNation
XAlliedSide, // XPortugalNation
XAxisSide, // XTanzaniaNation
XAxisSide, // XAngolaNation
XAlliedSide, // XRhodesiaNation
XAlliedSide, // XSouthAfricaNation

Allied=Side A, Axis=Side B.

One can move those around with Scenario Editor per scenario, too. I think.

Hi all,

it's difficult to define the allegiance of Uganda, as they were allied with Lybia and the PLO to fight the Tanzanians,
but I think the general setting should be Side A/Allied (-> opposing Tanzania).

Sounds good, I'll define it as such. As Jason confirmed, all nations can be moved about if so chosen.

Implemented, available in the next Middle East Update:

Middle East:

Code: Select all

XAlliedSide, // 37 XUgandaNation
XAlliedSide, // 46 XPortugalNation
XAxisSide, // 61 XTanzaniaNation
XAxisSide, // 73 XAngolaNation
XAlliedSide, // 76 XRhodesiaNation
XAlliedSide, // 78 XSouthAfricaNation
For notekeeping: I did not touch the Cold War code, Uganda is Side B there. Can be changed later.

Thanks Petri, great news.

Meanwhile my fingertips hurt from typing in all the new unit IDs, not only for the new units, but - as I only realized later - for all the
generic units that are necessary to create a new OOB from scratch (HQs, commanders,etc.).
Anyway, it's getting ahead.

Looking really good. Have you looked at the Squad Battles "Africa At War" mod as a source to draw on for building scenarios? There are also a number of conversions that can be made from SP MBT as well.
