Riptide! No berto

Post by Crossroads »

To have some fun while labouring with CS:ME 2.0, Berto and I are about to lock horns again, this time in a more modern environment with all the goodies the 1980s brought into the battle.

Riptide is scene III of four scenarios, depicting a hypothetical British Quick Reaction Force fray into Sirte, Libya, after Gaddafi blocked the Sidre Straits yet again from international maritime vessels.

Berto will present his side of the story here, while I'll be documenting this at the Grogheads AAR section.

I hope you enjoy this. We're playing this with latest CS:ME 2.0 Alphas, so hopefully some new eye candy here and there!

Here's nifty new feature for that: TEM Viewer

Really like these new tools for learning more about the battle map. There's two more similar view modes, so one for TEM, one for Concealment, one for Morale. Screenshots available at my DAR post.

Scouts out, ATGM teams digging in, MPAD teams screening out... No sight of Berto! I know he's up to something, he always is ...

Also: we're into BETA status with the CS:ME 2.0 exes. w00t! At the graphics side of things, I finished the NATO symbol resizing with all the detail now out there, did the Alt Counter edges manually as well.

British Turn #4

What do you do, when you spot a Libyan Tank Coy on a neat marching column next to your forward troops?

Answer to that, and to many other questions, can be found by reading the

British Turn #5

At outpost "Cumbria", I was expecting them to wipe out my forward platoon, but instead they continue forward at my full LOS.

Southwest of them, a full Libyan Tank Coy appears before my recce helos stalking there.

They don't see me, I see them... What happened then, see my

British Turn #6

... in which I have a Cunning Plan to wipe out the Libyan Tank Battalion ahead of me. I mean, I am perfectly positioned to do so.

Half the turn played, and the plan has worked, as the Cunning Plan tend to work...

I mean, what could go wrong.

British Turn #7

... where the Libyans don't seem to get a break.

First, my stranded Chieftain troop manages to absorb the blows sent its way. I assume the decision to have Lynx One and Two spent their second last mission on clearing one SP4 BMP-1 and one SP3 T-72 platoon helped. But yet, they were incredibly lucky.

Next, a Libyan TC sneaking in from the East is doing everything right. They have a Recce section ahead, they are avoiding LOS to "Devonshire". But somehow they miss the Scimitar section out there, with Op Fire OFF. They must have passed them by using adjacent hexes.

As it is, time to plan the action. First full scale tank action south of outpost "Devonshire", that's one of the action I'll likely take.

Read all about it (not done anything besides watching Replay yet though), at

Ping, said the email: Libyans called a retreat, while with the luck of the Irish, the Brits held on.
