Armour facing

Hi folks, I assume armour facing has been a hot topic at this scale in the past. Otherwise it wouldn't be optional? I can see valid arguments for and against. I tend to favour playing with it on but I'm surprised retreating units don't keep the same facing. I would expect them to pull back in reverse rather than turning tail and exposing their rear.
