The Battle For Bad Salzgitter

Post by 22sec »

The war began early on August 2, 1989. By mid morning the 10th Guards Tank Division had brushed aside the British screening force along the Inner German Border. The division ordered the 63rd Guards Tank Regiment to attack south of Bad Salzgitter to clear elements from the British 11th Armoured Brigdae.

Suspected British positions.

The division emplaced SA-8's on the high ground it had just occupied. The mobile SAM's begin engaging radar detected helicopters, probably scouts attempting to locate the advancing Soviet armor.

Good ground for battle. How's units behaving on the step-wise roads? For my map, I'm mostly linearizing roads with angles other than 0, 45, and 90 degree, mix of straight and 45 degree line. But your map design with step roads looks good as well.

It’s very interesting terrain. The aI placed some infantry in a location I didn’t anticipate, and I’m currently trying to bring through them with the remainder of my advanced guard. If I can clear them I can unleash two tank battalions in the flat ground where the actual objectives lie.

I don’t believe they impact movement any differently then “diagonal” roads. In reality they all are steps, it’s just the terrain files show “diagonals”. The other thing to remember is the units don’t move grid to grid like in a hex based game, they actually move across the ground meter by meter.

A minute later, the same SU-17 moments before it crashed - engaged by some sort of anti-aircraft fire before releasing its ordnance.
