There doesn't seem to be a need to capture objectives to win in AB. I have captured all objectives in a scenario and not win. I have captured 1 of 4 objectives and won. It's all about attrition, not objectives. Objectives are just killing zones where I would keep units within the LOS of the objective but not actually enter the objective box then kill off all the ai units that will come near the objective and win the scenario without capturing most of the objectives. Am I missing something?[&:]

Hailstone - try the recent videos and scenarios from Russian Heel - I've found them useful. Play them in order (I didn't)

My original inspiration for the scoring system was the Battlefield 1942 shooter game. As you hold objectives the enemy victory level goes down faster, and your level goes down slower. The effect is not sudden but gradual. I think this can be more realistic than entering a "victory hex" with your last remaining units and then winning the battle. Depends on the scenario of course.

The "dummy objectives" can be used so the player cannot know for certain where the AI opponent will be going. This way it's less effective to ambush the AI by overwatching an objective location.

Thanks for your game - I'm enjoying it more since seeing Russian Heel's vids above.

Is anything happening to the AB1943 mod ?

Have you seen the Command Ops - Battle of The Bulge - victory conditions?

Some are for holding by length of time
Some by holding at the end of the scenario
Some by casualties inflicted


So suppose the scenario is a retreat from Greece; if you run away too soon you don't get points for holding but low casualties; if you fight to the bitter end you may get points for holding but casualties will be higher.

I haven't played Command Ops lately, but in AB objectives can have a timer. After timing out the objective cannot be captured and disappears from the map, but still affects scoring. This feature can be used to make a scenario where you're supposed to hold a position for some time and then withdraw.

Ah, so that's what the timer is for! Are there any pre-made missions that use it?

"Elastic Defense" in the base game, and quite a few scenarios in "Breaking the Chains" campaign from Czechoslovakia-Netherlands DLC.
