Unstoppable saboteurs damaging rails?

Post by burningman »

I'm risking making a fool of myself, but I think I don't quiet understand the saboteurs mechanism.

The manual says "Saboteurs damage rail hexes. [...] Any unit protects against saboteurs in their hex. Any land unit will protect against saboteurs in their hex and the surrounding 6 hexes."

Yet, I have many damaged rail hexes I don't know why. See my sshot.

Perhaps somebody can help.

Cheers!

They're all too low supply level to repair, rail lines need at least supply level 6 to repair so it's very difficult to use one that isn't connected to a port or one of your main supply sources. I don't recognise this map at all so I assume it's a custom made one.

Thanks for the help. Can you refer this to a passage in the manual?

The map is a snippet of the default China 1937 campaign.

Ah yes, found the area of the map referred to. I expect the problem is that due to damage further up the rail the parts further forward can't be repaired. China 37 can be pretty difficult logistically for the Japanese as you have to move very quickly.

Manual section below. In Warplan Pacific, China is also a scorched earth country.

Page 58

11.4 Logistics

Rail – Land and air units may use rail points to move across the map.

This kind of movement uses no oil. Each strength that a unit has
costs a rail point to move. Rail also moves supply and resources to the
country’s capital.

Germany, the USSR, Spain, and Turkey have scorched earth policies.
Countries with this policy automatically damage rail as the enemy
occupies hexes that switch control.

Rail is repaired at a rate of 3 hexes
per turn if the map supply level is 5 or higher

Alright, that makes sense. Thanks a lot for pointing that out. Now I have to seriously rethink what I'm doing in China :?
