I agree, balance is quite good. I am still thinking China is a little underpowered. Japanese army is pushing too hard too quickly compared to history. Also, PP for China is too low to repair / upgrade anything as soon as only two 10 PP cities are remaining in your hands. Even when controlling Ledo and the road of life.

Europe is another story but Pacific is quite nice.

I agree China may be a bit underpowered although I have seen them do quit well also but it does seem if Japan focuses on them they can be pretty hurt. maybe more lend lease? which would make Ledo key. Historically their army was bigger then shown but also probably worse quality so idk hard to say. By 44 they were basically collapsing, shown by the success of ichi-go. Japans initial objective of isolating and destroying China was working, obviously Japan had other issues. Or maybe take away the 2 random behind the lines corps, or just leave it, I wonder if Japan had launched an offensive like ichi-go earlier what would have happened

I have beat up ncc good in China but he really put up a wall in India.

So give an take.

On the other hand micro managing the islands is now a LONG task.
ncc is mastering just harassing shipping all over the Pacific and it takes crazy amounts of time to stop it.

I think subs blockading islands need to have a chance of being damaged due to armed merchants...

Subs don't actually blockade just interdict supply

Yes indeed. I like doing port supply interdiction of one hex islands with my US subs. At the beginning, they have the torpedo issues anyway. The thing is that sinking port supply has a small chance of sinking MM as well.

I see only advantages to do this:
1. thinking few MM
2. obliging the Japanase player to counter this by putting ships around their islands (patrol groups or CA/DD groups). And this is consuming oil for Japan.
3. lower the effectiveness of planes or ships if they are attacking these subs.

I agree with stjeand that the chance to touch these subs are nearly zero except if they are using a COMINT.

But this is not impossible. Look at this picture of the turn I have just opened.

Correct...but in less than a year ncc has sunk 10 MM

IF the subs were in a convoy line for that whole year they would have sunk less and taken tons more damage.
I think that should be addressed.

10 MM may not seem like much but that is nearly half the Japanese economy for 2 weeks.
And if played correctly they can stay out of air range and just keep sinking MM...

And keep in mind I only sank that sub because it was near air...there are far to many islands to keep air in the area as well as ships to protect the lines.

Honestly I think air should also help prevent supply loss. Ships have trouble operating near air.

I never thought of that! Creative tactic, and not really a historical, Japan did lose alot trying to keeps islands supplied

Another advantage for US subs:
4. Their crew are gaining experience doing port supply interdiction.
