Concept for a Machiavellian east Africa scenario set in the near future

Post by TBLackey »

Can I get some feedback on this scenario concept I might make next year:

**************

Set 'a few years in the future'.

The scenario is centered around the US base in Djibouti, 'Showcase DLC' style. As well as US naval forces in the Red Sea, and a few of the US middle-east airbases.

You also control forces from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, UAE and Kenya.

With the advent of a new presidency, the US becomes wildly more aggressive in it's foreign policy in east Africa. You will direct an operation that will, in the words of Michael Corleone, "settle all family business" in the region.

Objectives:

1. Help Egypt bomb the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam by doing SEAD missions ahead of the Egyptian airstrike.

2. Degrade the Ethiopian military after the strike to the point where they can't retaliate effectively against you.

3. Protect neutral shipping in the area against Houthi ASBMs, and a Somali pirate attack. Retrieve the ship if the pirates capture it.

4. Bomb a few Somali pirate strongholds

5. Help Saudi/Omani/Qatari/UAE/Yemeni-government forces over-run Houthi/Quds force positions in Yemen,. Egypt also gets to try out their Mistral LHDs in an amphibious landing.

6. Help Kenya destroy Islamic terrorist strongholds in Somalia.

7. Bomb another terrorist stronghold in Sudan.

Russia will by this time have two bases in the region, one in Port Sudan, and one in Eritrea. To keep up appearances their air defences will fire at any of your forces that go near them, but otherwise won't hinder your operations. You LOSE points for attacking Russia.

Once Ethiopia has been beaten up a bit, Eritrea will capture a bit of northern Ethiopia with Russian assistance.

French forces in Djibouti, Japanese forces in Djibouti, and UK forces in Kenya will be milling around, doing other things. But they are the three monkeys - hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.

POSSIBLY:

8. False flag operation to destroy the PLA base in Djibouti.

add a newly built PLA base in Tanzania, and some surprisingly powerful UNMISS PLA forces in South Sudan. When you attack the PLA base in Djibouti, China fights back.

Thoughts?

What a mess, I hope you may create this scenario :)

Some comments/critics just in case they are useful:

I did not know this dam existed and has created a lot of friction. Apparently the Egyptians think the water of the Nile is "ours and only ours", an idea that probably comes from the ancient Egyptian civilization.

Regarding Qatar, I think they play their own game, should they be included in the Saudi, etc side?

Egypt so far has done nothing regarding Houthi anti-shipping attacks in the Red Sea, when evidently is quite harmful for them. Why would they attack the Ethiopians and the Houthis at the same time?

Russia intervention or lack of it should be unknown to the player, a chance of happening or not, if it can be simulated in the game.

Thanks for the comments, I will take that onboard.

Yeah, Egypt attacking Yemen is a bit suspect, but I do want to work in the Egyptian LHDs somehow. I'm pretty sure there isn't a scenario that uses them out there.

I see that Beirutdude created a scenario with the dam involved.

The Dam Busters, 2021, it is in the CSP.

For China presence in the Horn of Africa.
