[1527] CEC Testing

Post by kahta »

I am playing around with CEC capability for a scenario I am building and it seems like something is off.

In the attached scenario you will find
- A number of typhoon class submarines with various SAMs. One does not have an FCR, the others have FCRs that are damaged or destroyed
- An airborne A-50 with various datalinks required for launching a SAM.
- Three SA-21 Sites- One fully operational, One with damaged radars, and one with no radars

My testing has determined
- Even with the appropriate FCR active on the A-50 (Grave stone added) and datalink, the submarines won't launch the missiles
- When the FCR is destroyed or damaged on the Typhoon, it will still launch missiles (presumably, getting it's information from the A-50 whether the Grave Stone or Shmel-2 is active)
- When the FCR is damaged or destroyed on the SA-21 site, it will not launch missiles even though the A-50 is still active (regardless of which radar on the A-50 is active)

Based on my understanding of how CEC is supposed to work, both the SA-21 Site and the Typhoon should be able to launch SAMs by receiving targeting data from the A-50.

It seems odd that the Typhoons with a damaged/destroyed FCR can still launch, but the SA-21 sites can't.

Bug or WAD?

Does the datalink have to state CEC specifically for an off-board sensor to work? I think the missile and radar also have to have CEC property.

I am not sure.

I combed through the db files (the same ones I shared with you) and couldn't find any attributes or properties that were missing. The extensive number of missile types and datalinks in the scenario were part of my testing. I was able to get the typhoon to fire the AEGIS missile (I forget which one) in my testing through the datalink to the A-50 once I had added a radar even though I set the radar to damaged.

The SA-21a has the 48N6DM missile, it is a TVM missile, that means it needs to illuminate the target at launch to be fired. Also it needs an specific radar illuminator (in this case the Grave Stone).

As you can see the in the DB viewer its datalink has not CEC supports. Also at the moment none of the SARH/TVM missiles are CEC capable in CMO.

All the missiles in the subs are datalink/ins midcourse + Active Radar Homing at the terminal phase, that means they do not need the target be illuminated at launch, that's why you can fire all of them from the subs. The Grave Stone radar has no influence here.

If you remove the sensors from one of the subs, you'll see the sub won't be able to launch since it won't be able to know by itself where is the target

Hope it helps

The CEC feature has not been working properly for a long time.
Although in this particular scenario it doesn't affect much since none of the units you mention are CEC-capable it is worth taking into account.
