Nightmares - How to get the B-2's through?

Post by fatgreta1066 »

I've played this a few times, and I can win with an average score just by firing 8 cruise missiles at each non-underground target, they seem to destroy enough of them for me to get an average score.

I've on a couple of occasions made a B-2 attack against the far NW underground bunker and destroyed that, and can get that B-2 back home safely.

What I've never been able to do is get the B-2's to attack any of the more centrally located facilities. I've tried sending them in first, before flying any other aircraft onto the scene. I've tried sending them in with the "cover" of the incoming cruise missiles. I've also sent them in with F-22 escorts. But they always end up being detected and shot down, either by fighters or by SAMs.

Has anyone found a way to use them successfully? Maybe loop way around and come at targets from West - East? Not sure if there's enough time in the scenario but I could try that.

Use cruise missiles against emitting SAM sites. The old SA-X missiles have no chance of hitting or even detecting them and a single hit usually wiped out the battalion. Micro manage your F-22s to get high pK single shots on enemy aircraft. You drastically outrange anything they have and your jets are almost impossible to detect. Kill the Air Force (again single shots and don’t be afraid to use sidewinders if you have to) and your bombers will have an easier time. The KN-06 isn’t emitting and will only go active if a threat is detected, so avoid that. Your B-2s are very difficult to detect but not invisible. Make sure every radar near your targets is struck by the B-1 cruise missiles. If they are blinded and the MiGs are dead, the B-2s will never get spotted and you can drop successfully.

as mentioned by Tailhook, destroy those SAM sites first. My suggestion is some of the EW Radar site also need to be destroyed.
You can leave the SA-3 site alone, but you have to destroy the SA-5. See my post here

For old generation SAM, S-200/SA-5 is the most dangerous oppoenet for your stealth A/C due to it's powerful radar and long wavelength. then followed by S-75/SA-2

Hi again,

I'm back to this scenario and trying to follow the advice here, but I cannot figure out how to take out the Kn-06's. As far as I can tell there are four such installations. the one on the coast is easy enough to detect and destroy, but of at least two of the three on the interior seem to be impossible to detect accurately enough to fire cruise missiles at. I've been able to destroy one of those three, but can't accurately detect the other two. Without being able to do that, they shoot all of my B-2's down every time. I've even tried flying a flight of F-22's right over them, that hasn't generated an accurate firing solution either.

Any more advice?

Thanks,

Chris

The KN-06 only turns on and attacks if your aircraft are detected. Kill all emitting radars and they will never engage.

I finished this scenario today and I had some questions as well.

My plan was to try and destroy the radar installations that were capable of detecting stealth. I was successful in this regard, but the Kn-06s still gave me trouble. Somehow they'd always get a sniff of me when I got close or right after I dropped ordnance. They downed one of my B-2a's. After this I decided to head home with a minor victory, since I had fired all my JASSMs already.

So how to deal with the Kn-06s? I've seen people recommend to take out radar systems, but doesn't every AA installation have radar systems as well? How to avoid having to spend tons of missiles trying to destroy the Kn-06s? Or will the Kn-06 never emit on its own, even when all the surrounding radar installations are down?

ORIGINAL: Tailhook

The KN-06 only turns on and attacks if your aircraft are detected. Kill all emitting radars and they will never engage.

Am I to assume then that the Kn-06 will never use its own radar system, the Flap Lid B? Or is this radar completely unable to detect stealth targets?

It's kind of impossible to take out all radar sites with the ordnance you have available so I just sent 6 JASSMs towards each KN-06 site that turns on its radars after taking out as many radars as I can with the first B-1's JASSMs.

I followed the tailhook KungPao line of action. make a hole in the defensive AA bubble killing the SAM active and the EW site. the KN-06 stay silent
