Hey FelixCulpa,

Great AAR! I'm really impressed with your attention to the intel and the decisions you made based on it. These scenarios are designed for replay so the convoy will have different originating and destination ports on each playthrough (there's some checks in place to make sure all the variations are of equivalent difficulty, however).


Spoilers below:
The escorts sonar has a range of 2nm, but they're moving quite fast and sonar in the 50's was... garbage. You can get quite close to them if you're running quietly, and if you're below the layer you're pretty much invisible. This is before the days of ASW helicopters and MAD so you can be quite bold.
The Mk35 is designed to attack submarines but is more than fast enough to catch up to these freighters. They will also turn around and re-attack if they miss. A freighter hobbled with a Mk35 is a good target for a salvo of Mk14s at your leisure.
Don't forget you also have a deck gun. I don't recommend using this against the destroyers because they will definitely out gun you. However if you can separate a freighter from the pack the deck guns will make relatively short work of them.

Certainly can confirm your comments re being bold and the layer.
A deck-gun kill would be pretty cool!
Wouldn't mind getting a sub kill with the Mk35 from the surface either!

I presume that good scenario authors provide some clues in their messages and have tweaked the scenario for some performance parameters of the platforms. A bit of attention to detail can go a long way. All part of the fun and games of CMANO!
