Offensive Modifier for low supplies

Post by carll11 »

I've given up trying to figure this out, so I'll post here and hopefully some gurus can enlighten me;)

First; Unit stats-

what is the difference between supply consumption and offensive modifier for low supplies?

-If the unit has '3 green gas cans', meaning it hasnt consumed it supplies and 'all is good', why would the next icon over from the circle gas can thingy, 'Offensive modifier for low supplies' be red?

Next question- I have arty units that havnt had a Green OK for the Offensive Modifier for Low Supplies since turn 1, I'm in turn 12.....

I noticed this around and around turn 5 I turned off ALL intercept fire of any kind, I havnt used them to fire at all, their Div. is in supply, their corp is on supply, their army is in supply, all of their leadership, div, corp etc have above staff to off., off. to staff ratios above 1, there is medium supply base, unblocked 8 hexes down a road away. There is 2 hexes with yellow congestion trucks , and NONE of the other units in the div. except the arty are showing this 70 80 Red Offensive mod for low supplies.

Can someone please explain this to me? Thank you very much in advance........

Supply Consumption is the units' required upkeep. So you could think of that as food, medical supplies, spare parts, etc
If a unit can't meet it's upkeep, then readiness will take a big hit.

The offensive modifier is a bit more strange. A unit uses supplies during each "round" of combat. If it has at least enough supplies for 12.5 rounds of offensive combat, then the offensive modifier will show "OK". If you're seeing a -80% offensive modifier, then the unit only has enough supplies for 2 or 3 rounds of combat.

You can get some detailed info regarding supply stocks under the "unit" tab on the right side of the screen. Or clicking on the specific subunit at the bottom of the screen, i.e. "10.5cm artillery", you can see how many supplies a unit consumes per round of offensive or defensive combat. You could also look at the "supply" overlay at the bottom left and try to keep your artillery on green hexes.

Hopefully that's helpful. And caveat that I might be wrong about everything.

thx, its a mystery, in that I am not using the units, no off or intercept fire, etc. why are they not stockpiling?

Probably the first thing to check would be the unit counter. What color is the little square in the top right corner of the counter? If it is green, then the unit is receiving all of it's supply requests. Any other color means that supply is less than demand.

You could also click on the unit, then on the "Unit" sidebar on the right side. There you'll find the Unit Detail Stats, which has more information. From left to right on the top row: unit's supply stockpile vs maximum, how many turns the unit can pay upkeep with it's current stock, the amount of supplies requested, the amount received from the supply source, and the amount received from supply bases.

Some other ideas:

-You might want to change the nearby supply base to "deplete" mode. That will cause it to distribute its supplies to nearby units. In "regular" mode, the supply base only boosts the distance supplies can travel from the supply source.

-If your supply source is running low on supplies and/or fuel, you could request some extra in exchange for PP.

-Not all roads are created equal, so keeping your artillery on grey or orange roads is much better than brown (dirt) roads.

-It's possible, but very unlikely, that the artillery units have been set to not request replacement supplies. You can check that under the "Unit standing orders" tab. This is probably not the issue though.

Thx for taking the time for posting these lloyd, I have begun to figure out the supply issue with your assistance, the deplete mode helps a great deal.
