Mid game option changes

Post by RedJohn »

Hello,

I've been recently made aware that if you load up a singleplayer game you can change the options (such as morale, logistics, etc) in the middle of your game. I was wondering if it'd be possible to have this implemented for PBEM.

Perhaps a little interface where you propose changes on your turn, and on the following turn your opponent can accept or deny? Or something to that effect. I think it would be invaluable to have the freedom to adjust as the game develops.

Any chance to get this made possible?

Currently the only way is to use trigger Units with modded Scenarios, adding/substracting NM by Events triggered by this Units when sent to TB, or add Manpower, VP, AP and so on.

There's plenty of AARs which clearly show that there is a need for small additional balancing during gameplay to make the game in any way enjoyable to play/read AAR due to different skill/micro between players.

I can understand the desire, but I doubt it's something that will be done. You'd probably have to add some kind of extra layer of security, where a player entered changes and then it would go back to the other player to ok the changes before the game could continue. Sounds like a lot of coding changes that involve game options/interface/security.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Reading this ... I don't MP, but it is reasonable to assume these are save at a fixed offset in the game file. Thus, one could use an existing game editor tool to script a tool for altering desired values. This is assuming that the game files are not encrypted.

But the point is simply how badly one wants such functionality.

The way one might begin is start with an SP save file. Make changes only to game options and save. Compare the original file to the modified file to find change byte locations. To verify, you can see if the number at the offset matches, and you could also HEX edit and load the save and see what has become of the value.

Well, you get the idea ...

For those, of you with $200/month AI accounts; after finding the byte offset, let AI write you a script or front end to make this into a user friendly facility. There was recently a post (to appear in a paper) that showed OpenAI o1 model cheats 5 out of 5 games when playing Stockfish (best traditionally programmed chess engine). So, before that account takes your job away, make it sure does something useful for humanity.
